Ann Arbor Huron v. Detroit Catholic Central - The Upperclassmen

Ann Arbor Huron and Detroit Catholic Central squared off in Belleville last night. The game was tight throughout the first quarter with Huron holding a 16-13 lead after 1. Late in the second quarter and through the 3rd, Huron made every shot difficult with some stout defense. The River Rats went on a run and took a 53-34 lead into the 4th. But DCC was too tough to surrender. They made a 4th quarter run that saw them pull within 2 possessions multiple times. The Shamrocks just couldn't get over that hump and Huron earned the 69-59 win and a Regional Championship.   There were some juniors and seniors that played huge roles in this game and whose performances really stood out. We're going to look at those upperclassmen.    Moore's game actually looked a lot different than it did in district play. Which is a testament to his ability to read matchups and play multiple brands of ball. In districts he played a power game, bulldogging his way to the rim for good looks. This game, against generally bigger competition, he played a more precise style of game. He worked his jumper hitting a catch and shoot 3 and even drew a foul off a fadeaway. Moore used angles and lanes to attack the rim.     I've been really high on Brown as a player and prospect for a couple of years now. He didn't disappoint last night. In fact, Brown was HUGE in this game. He showed off his mid range game with a pretty pull up jumper from the free throw line. Brown was active around the rim, as he scored a few times off put back buckets. Brown had a highlight reel play when he was in transition with the ball and took it around his back to play keep away from the defender and ended with a layup finish.     Lee almost carried his Detroit Catholic Central team back in the 4th quarter. If my notes are correct, he hit 4 triples in the 4th quarter to carry the comeback attempt. It didn't matter where he shot from or what the scenario, they were all no doubters. Three of them were well beyond the arc and they came both off the bounce and off the catch. Early in the game, it was a bit of a different attack for Lee. He showed that he could get at the rim with a physocal straight line drive.     Keefer has had a terrific senior season and that continued last night. He's a knock down shooter and we saw some of that in the win against DCC. Keefer hit at least 2 catch and shoot triples. One of those he played really well off a screen, coming around wide open and burying it. Keefer also showed the ability to hit from mid range with a baseline jumper.     Bowden is a very high upside prospect with the skills to match the potential. I really liked the way that he saw and read the floor from the very beginning of the game. Bowden drove the ball baseline and dished it off for an assist. He also grabbed a rebound and immediately looked up the floor, delivering a pass over the top of the defense and connecting with a teammate in transition.     Morning has been a bit of a new face for me this year and he continues to impress. Last night it was his ability to find the open man and deliver the ball that impressed me the most. Morning had a baseline dribble drive with a kick out for an assist. He also had an on target swing pass across the court that led to a bucket. Morning later had another dribble drive and kick out for an assist.
