As the adage holds "April showers bring May flowers" In grassroots basketball parlance. Players that break out in the early portion of the AAU season bloom into fully realized in prospects in May. Following is a list of eight players broken down by class who have shown out in April and are ready to break out in May.

[player_tooltip player_id='2140508' first='Kingston' last='Thomas'] 6-5 East Lansing It's hard to label arguably the top player in the state a stockriser. However, he took a chance a switched over to the Under Armour circuit this year. The move appears to be paying off in terms of national recognition. He played very well at the eponymous [program_tooltip program_id='2077017' first='Grand' last='Rapids Storm'] tournament. Then followed it with a strong showing at Under Armour Session #1 in Kansas City. He appears to be adjusting nicely to a featured scoring role. That is next step as he is already loaded with so many intangibles, with the banners to prove it. The excellence wasn't just limited to domestic participation. With a Canadian heritage, also showed out in a Canadian national team combine. When you combine it all together, I could see him cracking top 100 status nationally by the time the summer is over. As the holder of an offer from Michigan St. He doesn't really need to raise his recruiting profile. However, it would be nice for this scout who has held onto some early IPO stock from quite some time.

[player_tooltip player_id='2613938' first='Trevon' last='Johnson'] 6-2 Holt While Thomas played well at the Storm Classic. It was his fellow Capital City prospect who took home the hardware. Johnson led his School Days Foundation squad to 17U Platinum Championship. A true point guard with excellent positional size. Hasn't played the position much for the Rams as they featured an outstanding multiyear starter. It should be his position this year. If early grassroots returns are any indication. Johnson could have big senior season. A new coach and system at Holt also might provide a bump. He is explosive with the ball in hands and on penetration. Scores at the rim annd can keep defenses honest with his outside shot. Balances playmaking and scoring opportunities well. Accordingly, I'm not sure he will ever be a statistical darling. He might not reach the lofty national status of the other players on this list. That is a long way to rise. However, has shown early that he play with some of top players in region.

[player_tooltip player_id='2416031' first='Connor' last='Brown'] 6-7 North Farmington I'm not going to overthink things with the Detroit area big man. When you go from zero Division 1 offers to two in the span of a month. You are certainly a stockriser. Brown looks slimmer and much more explosive vertically than I recalled from last spring. Still has plenty of bulk down low though. Light on his feet with quick lateral movements. Has good ball skills and hands. Catches almost everything thrown at him and snares rebounds out of his area. Also makes him an emphatic finisher at the rim. The developmental curve is pointed way up.

[player_tooltip player_id='2630702' first='Lewis' last='Lovejoy']5-9 Arts & Technology Academy of Pontiac I spend a lot of time in gyms. No nice way to say it but… people talk. Let me be clear, I did not hold these beliefs. But Lovejoy is often a topic of conversation and debate. A sampling

“He's too small”

“He has the constant green light”

“Hasn't played top competition on a big circuit or against Michigan's biggest schools”

After his inaugural run with [program_tooltip program_id='2077030' first='The' last='Family'], you can really only say one additional thing. How about this..

He is really good.

Has put up eye opening statistics and his team is off to a good start. How does 3-0 against all shoe circuit teams at an event in Ohio. Or how about a 3-1 record and first place in their division on the EYBL. Yes, Lovejoy is not very big and is a high volume scorer. The numbers don't lie though. He is a winning basketball player. This is compounded by back-to-back finals appearances in regular season play. Lovejoy will look to continue to silence any doubts throughout May.

[player_tooltip player_id='2539710' first='Becker' last='Samaha'] 6-8 Saline The 2028 class in Michigan is deep, but seemingly not as big in terms of front court prospects. Samaha's rapid improvement is looking to change that calculus. Has came a long way in a short period of time. Looked like a project last year. Has grown into his frame nicely and his skillset has improved. Plenty of bulk to bang down in the post, but also runs the court fluidly. Walls up nicely at the rim. The defense is ahead of the offense at the moment. He has shown improvement on the offensive end as well. Plays for a strong squad in Ann Arbor area [program_tooltip program_id='2539820' first='The' last='Academy']. They should step in competition this year by competing on the Under Armour Rise Circuit. Samara's profile could increase significantly with strong play there.

[player_tooltip player_id='2767770' first='Jordan' last='McDaniel'] 5-10 Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice Like Lovejoy, a diminutive Detroit guard who gets buckets. Unlike Lovejoy, McDaniel has a well established national reputation. Even with that profile, not many top players feature his smaller frame. Exiting the Junior EYBL, one still had to wonder if the production would follow. The answer is a resounding yes. I don't generally do a lot of numbers But they truly tell the story here. The leading scorer in the EYBL 15U division with over 26 points per game. Leads the circuit with almost four steals game. And I almost forgot, [program_tooltip program_id='2077030' first='The' last='Family'] is a perfect 3-0. Elite production and results from a elite national prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id='2844038' first='Jace' last='Opoku-Agyeman'] 6-1 Rockford (pictured) Perhaps it is the frustrated former print journalist in me. But a storyline is starting to develop in Michigan's 2029 class. Jace and Jordan… Two elite guards from opposite sides of the state. One plays on the Nike circuit. The other playing up an age group on the Under Armour circuit. One is a small statistical beast (see above) The other already stands over six feet and has a state championship on the mantle. Opoku-Aygeman has been wracking up national attention. He is arguably one of the top players on his circuit. His defense is just as impressive as his offense. He should join McDaniel as a national recruit when the major scouting services start evaluating the 2029 class. He also looks healthy after struggling with injuries early in his career.m

[player_tooltip player_id='2844069' first='Jackson' last='Huffman'] 6-7 Hillsdale Academy After becoming the rare 8th grader to earn All State honors as a freshman in Michigan. Huffman has kept the momentum going into April. Up until this point he has did it the old-fashioned way. For April moved away from his shoe circuit team. Won two prestigious Grand Rapids tournaments playing with local players from his region. Has uncommon coordination and dexterity for a player of size. While skinny, at his grade level he is skilled enough to essentially plays all five positions. Like Thomas (see above) has Canadian heritage and has tried out with Canadian national team. Is also slated to play with UPlay Canada on the Junior EYBL circuit. Plenty of opportunities to raise his stock before even setting foot in a high school.
