On Friday, February 7th I attended the match-up of #4 in 5A Canyon View traveling to the East Valley at #6 in 5A Campo Verde.

Canyon View is one of very few 5A teams in my opinion that can win it all in 5A (if they drop back down from the OPEN).

Campo Verde is way better then most people and teams realize. They are a true spoiler team in the playoffs and if some of the top 5A teams stay in the OPEN, Campo could be one of those teams that will make a deep playoff run.

I checked out all three levels with Freshman, JV and varsity.

Here were the standouts on the night

Freshman Game (64-38 Canyon View won)

[player_tooltip player_id='2767675' first='Bowen' last='Lee'] Canyon View

A long forward plays both forward spots for them. He is very long in the passing lanes and rebounds well in his area using his size. He has a nice touch on the free throw line and scores it inside efficiently.

[player_tooltip player_id='2767677' first='Caleb' last='Sibley'] Canyon View

A combo guard is a great rebounder in traffic for his size. Pound for pound he is one of the better rebounders in the class with a ridiculous motor and athleticism. He will hit the three and score on the glass. He scored 10 points with 6+ rebounds.

[player_tooltip player_id='2552789' first='Jacob' last='Ruiz'] Canyon View

A scoring point guard is a very good passer up the court. He will find teammates in stride plus score it. He will hit the three off the catch or pull and he is a step quicker then many to collect steals in bunches. He also played on junior varsity.

[player_tooltip player_id='2560322' first='KJ' last='Iten-Pauley'] Canyon View

A very quick combo guard is a little undersized but he is a good shooter with a high IQ. He has an easy three point shooting stroke to rattle them in and he will get to the free throw line after he picks some pockets on defense.

[player_tooltip player_id='2767685' first='Jacob' last='Hanson'] Campo Verde

A scoring combo guard is a bucket. The lefty has a clip and got hot and rattled in 4 threes in a row. He comes with deep range and will also score with floaters, runners and will make off balanced shot in traffic in the lane. He has great on-ball defense and led all scorers with 20.

[player_tooltip player_id='2767688' first='Weston' last='Rigby'] Campo Verde

A good sized wing forward has a nice feel and some strength. He is a good passer and plays the game from the neck up. He can hit the three plus rip thru and and get to the basket to score or find a teammate.

Junior Varsity Game (56-49 Campo Verde won)

[player_tooltip player_id='2767975' first='Luke' last='Bates'] Campo Verde

A shooting guard can fill it up. He will score with step thrus to the basket, use the floater game, he can hit perimeter jumpers but uses his deceptively quick first step to get downhill and scores off the glass or layups. He moves without the ball and will hit the pull-up three. He scored 20 points leading all scorers in the game.

[player_tooltip player_id='2428067' first='Landry' last='Peterson'] Campo Verde

A scoring point guard also had a great night. He has a quick burst to the basket to get downhill and will score it or cash in on the free throw line. He takes contact well and is also a good on-ball defender. He rebounds well despite his size and scored 17 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1956216' first='Kingsley' last='Edwards'] Canyon View

A scoring real point guard has a tight handle and he is extremely shifty. He can pull-up off the dribble from mid-range and hit the catch three. He has great court vision to serve up some dimes. His quickness and speed with the ball stand out immediately. He also moves his feet on defense to pester his opponents. He scored 10+ points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2767960' first='Jubie' last='Pitre'] Canyon View

A long wing forward with some size. He scores with cuts off the ball and uses his length on defense to collect steals. He is a good passer and will get on the glass and score on put backs. Once he fills in, he will be even tougher to handle.

[player_tooltip player_id='2767958' first='Titan' last='Jacobs'] Canyon View

A strong framed scoring guard can dribble drive and score thru contact. He will score it in transition with his nice frame. He is very good in the passing lanes and also is a good passer with an unselfish attitude.

[player_tooltip player_id='2396140' first='JR' last='Moore'] Canyon View

A scoring guard with a pretty touch from the perimeter. He will hit the three off the catch but he loves the mid-range pull-up off the dribble as he rises up with nice elevation. He will score it in transition and get on the glass. He finished with 10+ points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2318330' first='Jarod' last='Hemsley'] Canyon View

A power forward with good hands to catch passes inside and will score with layups or reverses. He uses his size in the paint to score with tough shots and grabbed many out of area rebounds to keep plays alive. He had 12+ points.

Varsity Game (75-57 Canyon View won)

[player_tooltip player_id='1371094' first='Quincy' last='Kirk'] Canyon View

A scoring point guard took over the game in the second half when they were down. He scores with mid-range pull-ups, he gets downhill with a very calm and controlled pace in traffic with advanced body control. He will score with offensive rebound put backs or get to the line and he made one fall away in the post that was a thing of beauty. He scored 21 points 7 rebounds 5 assists and 2 blocks.

[player_tooltip player_id='1956217' first='PJ' last='Nowlin Jr'] Canyon View

An all-around versatile wing forward keeps getting better. He is a very good rebounder in his area using his length and athleticism. He will score with the corner three, get to the free throw line or lay it in in traffic. He really affected the game with his defense and natural instincts that the stats may of not shown. He collected steals, got multiple deflections and cleaned the glass. He seemed a step quicker and anticipated where the ball was going. He grabbed 5+ rebounds with 2 assists and 7 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1763218' first='AJ' last='Harris'] Canyon View

A long and active wing forward was a problem for the East Valley team on the glass. He scored with catch threes, back to the basket fall aways in the paint, multiple driving layups in traffic and gobbled up rebounds plus blocked shots. He is also a sneaky good passer. He scored 16 points 9 rebounds 3 assists and 2 blocks.

[player_tooltip player_id='1371095' first='Noah' last='Oliver'] Canyon View

A physical guard brought the team back in the second quarter when they were down big. He is a top notch rebounder for a guard using his physical gifts and girth. He will score with mid-range jumpers, in traffic buckets and catch threes in rhythm. He scored 17 points with 8 rebounds.

[player_tooltip player_id='1763220' first='Devin' last='Sanders'] Canyon View

A quick on quick scoring real point guard got the start with [player_tooltip player_id='1150852' first='DeNali' last='McNeal'] not able to go. He collects steals with his quick hands and feet and will score with blow bys with a euro step into a floater. He also made the pass of the game with a phenomenal pass threading the needle to a teammate. He makes his money with his defense, passing and timely shots.

[player_tooltip player_id='2318918' first='Connor' last='Hendershot'] Canyon View

A scoring wing with a nice perimeter shooting stroke. He will score with offensive rebound put backs, dribble drives to the basket and rebounds well in his area. He moves without the ball and you will not see him take a bad shot. He scored 4 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2412784' first='Teviyon' last='Jackson'] Canyon View

A high motored wing forward comes in off the bench every game and gives high effort. He scores with layups in traffic, offensive rebound put backs, he runs the floor and he will defend multiple positions from inside the paint to out on the perimeter.

[player_tooltip player_id='1986854' first='Brandon' last='Curtis'] Campo Verde

The tough senior point guard leads the way for the Coyotes. He rebounds well and will collect steals with his toughness. He scores with layups in traffic thru contact, ball fakes into a three, catch threes and he is one of the faster end to end on the court to outrace the opponent. He also comes with nice body control on his layups. He scored 16 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2457882' first='Gage' last='McDowell'] Campo Verde

A wing forward keeps improving. He is adding more skill to his already plus athleticism. He scores it with mid-range jumpers with real polish and rising high. He will get on the glass for put backs using his bounce, he handles the ball well to create his own shot and he can now ball fake into a side step three. He still has a great motor to rebound and scored 13 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2767427' first='Bronson' last='Hedges'] Campo Verde

A wing forward is active and rebounds well in and out of his area. He shoots the three off the catch with a confident stroke and some range. He keeps moving without the ball for easy points and showed some poise as a freshman. He scored 9 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2291976' first='Collin' last='Kvamme'] Campo Verde

One of the top pure shooters in the sophomore class has been impressing this season. He will rattle in triples with a super quick release and the lefty can step back and hit the three. He has quick feet on defense to collect steals and will get himself to the free throw line off a nice first step. He scored 9 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2457860' first='Chris' last='Cardon'] Campo Verde

The physical senior forward of the team is tough and fearless in the paint. He uses his frame and grit to get inside and bang with the taller post players. He will score it near the basket and he is a good passer.

On Friday, February 7th I attended the match-up of #4 in 5A Canyon View traveling to the East Valley at #6 in 5A Campo Verde.
