I couldn't find any stats from the game, but Cooper put in a huge performance on Tuesday night to lead Washburn past #5 ranked Park Center. He started off the game beating his man with a backdoor cut for an easy lay-up, and from there was finding ways to score out on the perimeter, in transition, or off the drive. Every dribble Cooper takes seems to be with a purpose, and he does a great job of moving without the ball to open up scoring opportunities. Showed good instincts defensively to double in the post and force mistakes out of opposing players.

The season opener between North and Hiawatha was pretty sloppy, but Marcus was still able to finish with a team high 20 points in a win. He drained three first half threes from well beyond the arc, including one from the logo in the center-circle that seemed to shock everyone in the gym. Marcus has some of the deepest shooting range in the state, with a quick release to match. In the second half his shot wasn't falling, but I liked his aggressiveness to get to the rim and draw contact, resulting in a lot of free throw attempts.

[player_tooltip player_id='2404942' first='King' last='James'] struggled with foul trouble in the second half and ended up fouling out, so I didn't get to see him play heavy minutes, but he still impressed in his time on the floor. He immediately stands out physically, as he's a strong 6'6-6'7 forward who jumps out of the gym during pre-game lay-up lines. During the game he stood out with his presence on the glass, skying above opposing players to high-point missed shots and secure them with two hands. He pulled in 16 rebounds and was doin so on both ends of the floor. Threw down a transition dunk and had a few strong finishes inside for his 12 points. Thought he did a nice job of passing the ball ahead for some transition assists as well.

Armoni is an energizer for a balanced Washburn team. Defensively I like his effort to consistently pressure the ball, and his lateral quickness allowed him to constantly cut off opposing ball handlers. Sparked a run in the first half when he knocked down a three, followed up by a steal and lay-up in transition. Someone who can step up as a scorer when needed, but will always bring defensive effort and keep the ball moving in the half-court.

Allen came out ready to compete on the defensive end for Minneapolis North. Their full-court press was forcing mistake after mistake from Hiawatha guards, and a big part of that was Allen flying all over the floor making plays. He's so quick and seems to have a motor that never stops. Added in 9 points on the offensive end using his quick first step to beat his defender, and showing no fear getting into the lane to either draw a foul or finish inside.

One of the few bright spots in a rough start for Park Center, [player_tooltip player_id='1560826' first='Joel' last='Saah'] looks primed for a breakout junior season. Like a few other guards on this list, he showcased some toughness with his ball pressure defensively, coming up with a handful of steals throughout the game. He was one of the only players for Park Center who had success pushing the tempo in transition, showcasing some impressive body control on some tough finishes at the rim. Sparked a little bit of a comeback attempt during the final 8 minutes, but Washburn held strong as Park Center would fall by 14.

Kam wasn't getting as many looks from three as he often does, although he still shot 3-5 from deep, but found ways to rack up 25 points in his senior season debut. He did a great job of recognizing the foul situation in the second half, and was constantly drawing contact away from the rim to earn easy points at the line. He really carried the scoring load for his team with [player_tooltip player_id='2404942' first='King' last='James'] on the bench in the second half, pushing the game down to the wire with Minneapolis North.
