Joel was all over the floor creating good looks for his teammates on Sunday morning. His change of speed proved difficult for defenders to keep in front of, and once a help defender had to step up, Joel was quickly able to locate and pass to an open teammate. Had some accurate kickout passes to his three point shooters, and put an alley-oop pass on the money to his 6’9 teammate out of a pick & roll. Although it wasn’t as necessary in this game as Select’s offense was rolling, we’ve seen Joel enter games before and completely switch around the momentum with his infectious energy on both ends of the floor.

Joel’s play on both ends was key in a win for Select against ND Phenom . He was tenacious defending on the ball, able to put opposing guards under pressure and force a handful of mistakes out of them throughout the game. Going the opposite way his decision making with the ball stood out. When attacking the basket he knew when to keep it and finish on his own, or when to dish it off at the last second for an assist. He always had his eyes scanning the floor, which allowed him to make those decisions as soon as a help-side defender committed one way or the other.

Joel turned in another solid weekend with MN Select, being one of the best on-ball defenders in his class. I saw him pick up full court at times, making opposing ball handlers’ lives very difficult. He has great instincts, constantly poking balls free. He is a great finisher around the rim, as I was impressed with his euro step that he would go to often in transition.
