Jack Tosh Holiday Classic: Dec 31 Standouts

The holiday extravaganza concluded on Tuesday with the final day of the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic.  It featured three games in Fenwick vs Bolingbrook (Championship), Metamora vs Lake Zurich (3rd Place), and St. Laurence vs Downers Grove South (Consolation Title).  Here I break down the top performers from the day in Jack Tosh Holiday Classic: Dec 31 Standouts!   Championship Game   Bolingbrook and Fenwick met in the championship game of the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic and the final game of the 2024 calendar year.  Early on it was all Bolingbrook as they raced out to a quick lead.  Fenwick stormed back however to take a 30-20 lead into the half.  Bolingbrook opened up 7-0 in the third quarter quickly erasing that and regaining the lead.  Fenwick was never quite able to get over the hump as Bolingbrook held them off to win the championship 54-48.    Thompson is one of the premier prospects in the state regardless of class. He was fighting through sickness for a second straight game, but that didn't matter as he came up big again including banging in several very deep threes. His handles were on point as well with hesi moves to set up pull ups, getting in the lane for soft touch finish, and he had his euro step game going as always. The high-major sophomore had 17 points.     This Valpo commit had a big second half for the Raiders. He played with toughness and strength inside finishing through contact, made several nice passes, and was a rim protector. His combination of quickness and pop making him a tough cover down low. One of the state's top posts showed it going for 18 points.     Pettigrew is among the elite freshman in the Illinois 2028 class. What stood out about his performance was his passing as he found his teammates with dishes on the move throughout the game for scores. Plays well in the open floor, can deck it, and is a solid three point shooter. All-around guard had 7 points.     Brost did what he always does. Makes winning plays on both ends. Hit a few key threes, a floater, and was rock solid in the win going for 8 points.     Ducree was stellar for Fenwick in the victory. The 6'0” point guard pouored in mid-range jumpers for days along with a pair of threes including one where he crossed his man before draining the shot. Plays with speed and shifty handles. Going to be a good small college get! He had 17 points in this game.     Macariola is another D3/NAIA guard that has a bright future there because of his toughness and how well he can shoot it from deep. Connected on three triples for 9 points in this one.     Marshall will be playing football in college for Michigan as one of the elite prospects in the state. On the hardwood he had a big game to get them to the title contest and was solid again in this one. He had a three early in the game, but it was his ability to carve out space down low for scores along with rebounding that set the tone. Physical defender had 9 points.      3rd Place Game   Metamora won the third place game, but got everything they could handle and more from Lake Zurich who is really hitting their stride at the right time with a great week at York.  In this one Metamora scored the victory 70-67.    Zobrist capped off an outstanding week at the Tosh with a 24 point outing.  Like he has done all year the Bradley commit put his team on his back for stretches with his shot making from deep.  Hit pull up and threes off the catch in this one.  Creates so much separation on his three point shot with his step back.  Quick moves scoring around the hoop with either hand and had some excellent passes including a key lob late.  Expect him to be in the Player of Year conversation and under consideration for a top 5 ranking in the senior class.     Funk is a bouncy four man for Metamora that is headed to South Dakota.  He had stretches of taking over in the second half as the big man used his athleticism sealing for a slam and then using his left hand to tip a lob pass in.  Finished well out of the dunker spot and has touch on short shots/hooks.  Plus rim protector with his timing and bounce swatting shots.  His athleticism up front is definitely his strength as he had 16 points in the win.     Grieves is a heady floor general that made key plays both as a passer and scorer in this one.  One of the better scoring games we have seen out of him as he hit a trio of threes along with getting in the lane for multiple nifty finishes.  Really good small college prospect that had 15 points.     Freshman forward has good size and strength.  Can knock down a three off the catch while also playing with physicality on the glass and through contact on drives to the rim.  Good entry passer to the post as well leading Funk.  He had 10 points.     Big outing for the 6'3” 2026 shooting guard who elevated his stock with a strong week.  Plus shooter that hit an array of threes both off the catch and creating on his own.  Got in the mid-range for some jumpers along with using his crisp handles to score in the paint for nifty conversions.  Went for 21 points.     Peterson is a 5'8” point guard that is a good passer setting his shooters up well off the bounce kicking to them for good looks.  Best as a scorer getting in the lane for scoop shots and layups.  Can hit a 15 footer as well.  Finished with 12 points.     Good glue guy for this squad that poured in a trio from beyond the arc and contributed on the glass.  He had 11 points.     Rangy left handed wing poured in some big triples in their game nailing three of them en route to 11 points.              Consolation Championship   The consolation championship game between Downers Grove South and St. Laurence was a fun back and forth contest.  In the end St. Laurence had just enough to get over the top winning 69-64.    Johnson is among the better pure “put your head down and get a bucket” seniors in the state.  He is a physically built two guard that plays bully ball on his takes to the rim finishing with toughness through contact at the rim.  Gets to the foul line and plays off his defense.  He had 12 points.     Peoples is a power shooting guard that almost operates as the post for an undersized St. Laurence squad.  He was a force in this game hammering the offensive glass for put backs one after another.  Does a great job of carving out space on the interior for scores along with using spin moves and body control at the cup as he went for 20 points (10-10 FG), 9 rebounds, and 3 assists.     Stratton closed out a strong week at the Tosh with another good shooting performance hitting a pair of threes.  His value at the next level comes in his ability to consistently knock down shots off the catch.  Also mixed in some transition scores and was active defensively for 11 points and 3 dimes.     Flowers is among the more underappreciated 2026 wings in the class.  He is a bucket getter that had a big first half.  Smooth operator with the ball in his hands being able to get to his spots where he poured in mid-range jumpers one after another.  Slick takes to the rim for behind the back layups and euro steps.  Went for 16 points (7-10 FG).     Wawro had a breakout tournament as the Northern Illinois baseball commit is a crafty scoring combo guard who has a sweet float game.  He plays with creativity off the bounce and loves to score in the paint, but is a capable shooter as well notching 16 points.     This 6'3” shooting guard had his moments in the loss as he had a run hitting four triples in a short amount of time.  Quick release with solid positional size.  He had 12 points (4-5 3PT).
