A huge name buzzing around Ohio recently, Powell is a new face after moving in from the new england area and people are very interested to see if his game lives up to the hype he has with offers and national recruiting rankings. His debut performance was strong as Powell had a monster scoring game to lead Buchtel to a tight win over Newark. A strong wing guard who is an elite athlete, Powell doesn't get pushed off his spots and can finish at the rim through contact. He also had some tough shots including a double crossover into a rainbow pull-up 3-pointer. I'll be curious to continue to see how Powell develops but he is a no brainer Division I target and will debut high in our 2026 rankings when they get updated later this month.

A pure bucket getter from the wing, Quackenbush was carrying a Newark squad without their star senior [player_tooltip player_id='1832081' first='Braylon' last='Morris'] and kept the game tight throughout against a more talented Akron Buchtel squad. I was impressed with how Quackenbush moved without the ball in his hands, executing set plays for him to receive the ball and score either off a 3-pointer or a post up touch. The wing is an excellent set shooter and also has soft touch from the 10-15 foot range by shooting over smaller defenders. Once Morris comes back I expect Newark to be a tough out once again in central Ohio.

Diedalis had a double-double in Centennial's blowout victory over Whitehall on Saturday morning to open up the event. A stretch big, Diedalis knocked down a handful of 3-pointers in the first half and crashed the glass hard in the second half with his size. I thought Centennial had some solid pieces across all four grades and should be one of the best teams in the Columbus City League this season.

Africentric is filled with athletes in the 2026 class and Smith checks a ton of boxes on the hardwood. A football standout as well with two Division I offers at the quarterback position, Smith has the prototypical size, speed and burst you'd want from a wing. Smith caught a lob pass for a layup finish, had a breakaway slam dunk and had a chase down block off the backboard in the first half alone. I need to see more games from Smith to get a better read on what he plays like against other top talent but he's very intriguing as a basketball player as well. A name to know in central Ohio's 2026 class.

Returning to Lutheran East, Crumble looks like a new player out there as he slimmed down and looks more mobile on both ends of the court. The most experienced player on a young Lutheran East roster, Crumble is a leader who their younger guys will look up to on the court. I was also impressed with his motor on Saturday, getting a ton of dunks by running the floor and being in the right spots in transition. Add in a couple jumpers with his feet set and Crumble looks like a player who spent the fall developing key aspects of his game that will make him even tougher to stop this season.
