The Ohio Buckets 17 U team has a lot of the top available prospects in Ohio with Morris as a key piece from that roster. An elite shooter and defender, Morris will bring floor spacing, toughness and production to whatever college program he attends. Typically Newark kids do extremely well at the college level due to their program culture and ability to get players ready to the adjustment to college coaching and expectations. Morris has already been a priority for regional Division II and NAIA programs, holding a pair of offers at each level (Findlay, Hillsdale, Indiana Tech and Mount Vernon) already.

Morris has been a consistent riser since the Spring began and he continues to shine with a Newark program that already is playing with the defensive continuity and toughness that fans are familiar with. Morris athleticism allows him to block shots and pickpocket ball handlers to help start the fast break for his team. In the half-court, Morris is an elite shooter off the catch who can run off screens and let it fly quickly. Newark will once again be a tough out in central Ohio due to their style of play and returning core that Morris leads.

Sometimes it’s best to have a couple skills that you bring to the table and do that as well as you possibly can, that’s the case with Morris. An ELITE shooter off the catch, Morris hit like five or six 3’s in the game I scouted. Getting them off kick outs and DHO’s, Morris was shot ready off the catch and was efficient with the looks he took. Defensively, Morris can make an impact with his ability to fight over screens and use active hands on passing lanes. Coming from the Newark program, it’s no surprise that Morris makes a big impact defensively with the toughness that program requires from you. Hoping to see a jump with the ball handling ability of Morris, this would help him break full court pressure and create space for himself in half-court settings. As of now, Morris is an elite specialist at the scholarship level.

Newark was a team that I wasn’t sure how they would be this season after graduating Grant Burkholder from a district title winning squad. With

dominating in the paint and the growth of Morris, Newark is once again near the top of the central Ohio hierarchy. Morris has taken a leap athletically and continues to shoot the ball at a high level. The obvious jump he took from Sophomore to Junior season is encouraging for where he’ll be a year from now. This is a name regional college programs will really get to know this spring and summer.

A prospect I caught in the playoffs as a Sophomore, Morris has clearly taken a leap athletically and looks much more confident putting the ball on the deck. Last year Morris was a complimentary guard who could knock down an open shot and shoot it from the outside. He still has that smooth stroke by knocking down a couple spot-up triples, but the athletic jump he made stood out the most to me. More confident attacking downhill and almost catching a body on a backdoor cut, Morris looks like a potential breakout star who knows how to play in the Newark system.

Newark basketball is a unique experience as the Wildcats have one of the winningest programs in the state and their coaches and fanbase demand a certain level of toughness and buy-in from every player that sees the floor. Morris is a great example of their culture by taking charges, making the extra pass, being in help-side defense and knocking down the open shot. With a run of impressive playoff performances, Morris makes his debut in our rankings. Expect to see him playing a heavier load in the back-court next season as
