Before the start of the new season, we wanted to share some of our underrated point guard prospects around the area. There is a lot of guard talent in the DMV are, but this article will highlight those who may not have gained as much attention as their class peers. Here are some guys that have impressed over the summer and/or preseason portion of play but may be under the radar.

Moore is a solid and composed lead guard for DCI. Can shoot the ball with clip if you give him the space to pull the trigger. Defenders attempt but struggle to maintain physical and pressure due to his frame, control, and poise. He can shift through the levels defense and find the best spots on the floor to set up his teammates. Great vision and has a high IQ on the floor. Feels like he knows what to do at all times while he's on the court, which is essential at the point guard role.

[player_tooltip player_id='2620897' first='CJ' last='Lyons'] is the second half to the CG backcourt attack alongside his younger brother Lonnie Lyons. CJ works the ball with a certain flair and control that flows through the whole team. He controls the offensive flow and pace, and reads the defense effectively to set his teammates up for good looks. His playmaking ability opens up his shot outlook offensively, and he is comfortable scoring from anywhere on the floor. Can shoot, drive, defend, and distribute well and is called upon as an important member of the CGCS Eagles.

Got a chance to see Arulefela for the first time at HoopBuzz Hundred this summer. Really liked the way he ran the point for his team in each scrimmage. Strong on-ball defender as well, picks up early and tips lots of passes. He was able to mix things up nicely between his scoring and distributing. Showed nice handle on the ball, broke down his defender whenever necessary and could get to the rim and finish. Looked the part as a true point guard leading the offense, never let the defender dictate what he wanted to do. Mature freshman with a ton of time for development.

Wills spent most of the summer racking up his point/assist total in every gym he walked in. Selected as an All-star in the Capitol Hoops Summer League, and continued on from there to host very impressive numbers for St. Albans and District AAU. You can chalk him up for a 20-10 game more times than not. Wills knows how to play the game, gets to all his spots on the floor although being a bit undersized. Knockdown shooter off the dribble, screen, or catch. Holds command with the ball and will make shots with consistency if the defense doesn't play him close. Safe to sum Wills up as a potent scoring double-double threat at the point guard position.

Scrappy and confident point guard for RCA. Plays the game with an undeniable chip on his shoulder and makes winning plays game-to-game. He controls the ball well and seeks to make the right play in every situation. Gets after it defensively and never backs down when defending a strong offensive player. Feeds his teammates well, runs the plays, and doesn't look to play outside his PG role. He consistently makes key 3pt baskets off the flow of the offense and is not afraid to attack the closeout and take the ball to the rack with a strong finish.

Another HoopBuzz Hundred participant that was impressive in the point guard role. Following a pretty productive summer with New World, he continued to show what he is capable of with the ball in his hands. Quick and shifty guard with a quick floater that he can get off over roaming shot-blockers. His brightest attribute is his court vision and ability to create for his teammates. He has the skill to break down defenses and keep his head on a swivel to find the open man at the right time. He Creates a lot of open shots and will start to make more of his own as his career continues.

[player_tooltip player_id='2148787' first='Chase' last='Brown'] is a fierce competitor that welcomes the challenge of being a small guard. He impacts the game in many ways that don't include his shooting. Flies around the floor as a defender on or off the ball, causes deflections and turnovers, even grabs rebounds through traffic at times. He is strong with the ball and can run the offense as a point guard. As mentioned before, Brown has a smooth jumpshot that he will bury with open space. Will look for baskets and make them to keep the defense honest. Underrated guard on an underrated team.
