Luke Arulefela
About Luke
Expert Analysis
William Lloyd III | Prep Hoops Scout
Luke will take on a huge role in his second season with Avalon. He will be the star PG in the backcourt trusted to lead the way for the young team. He can shoot the ball inside and out at a high velocity. When he’s decisive with the ball he makes great reads and gets the offense to flow. Luke heats up quick and shoots the ball with confidence which opens up the floor for his team. His defense is most impressive as he looks to defend the full length of the floor. Collects steals and creates havoc defensively all game long. Luke’s game steadily improved all season long and I expect the same to happen over the summer.

Got paint touches with his downhill tenacity. Showcased his scoring arsenal effortlessly finding the cup in different ways. Didn’t get fazed by double teams and didn’t let ball stick to hands. Despite his small stature he was a smart defender around the bucket and stayed home with his arms straight up forcing offenses tough scoring looks.

as a freshman. He did legitimately everything as a focal point for a 15-11 team that finished with a 8-3 league record with only one senior on their team. Whether creating, setting up others, or applying nonstop scoring pressure from all levels, Luke delivered an average of almost 10 points a game. He filled it up as a scorer and contained his assignment well defensively. Arulefela should appeal to various next-level coaches in the future..

-A physical, aggressive guard that can play 1-3 for this Avalon team– he had a phenomenal all-around impact in a road win against Takoma. Arulefela lived in the paint throughout the contest, collecting a ton of assists by hitting the low man or swinging the ball out to one of his shooters on the perimeter. The pace he plays with to push the ball in transition wreaked a ton of havoc in the opposing team, finding teammates while still also finding opportunities to score or earn trips to the line himself. Love the way that he plays with his head up to scan the floor for passing options, seeing his secondary targets in the PnR before executing on his reads.

Has a true natural feel for the game and is a leader for a young Avalon roster. Luke’s approach and execution usually match when he’s on the court. His defense is always solid on the ball and he is a real factor off-ball when he’s on the perimeter due to the way he reads the passing lanes. Luke can shoot the 3-ball consistently and will pull off the dribble if he feels the defender sleeping. Sturdy frame that helps him absorb contact on his drives and he doesn’t force his attacks to the rim. Reads the defense as a point guard and picks his spots to score while facilitating the rock. 2-way player who is putting together a very solid freshmen season against some respectable opponents.

Got a chance to see Arulefela for the first time at HoopBuzz Hundred this summer. Really liked the way he ran the point for his team in each scrimmage. Strong on-ball defender as well, picks up early and tips lots of passes. He was able to mix things up nicely between his scoring and distributing. Showed nice handle on the ball, broke down his defender whenever necessary and could get to the rim and finish. Looked the part as a true point guard leading the offense, never let the defender dictate what he wanted to do. Mature freshman with a ton of time for development.
