High School Basketball Feast Week continued on Wednesday with a stop in Columbia, South Carolina, at Keenan High School for the Columbia Basketball Group Holiday Hoopfeast. This event showcased twelve teams divided into three brackets. First up in my coverage of the Holiday Hoopfeast is the George Glymph Bracket which featured Lancaster, James Island, Keenan, and CA Johnson. Check out some notable performances, game recaps, and the five standout prospects from Wednesday's action:

Final Scores:

Lancaster 70, James Island 47

Keenan 74, CA Johnson 55

Notable Performers:

[player_tooltip player_id='1145334' first='Jordan' last='Watford'] (Lancaster) - 30 Points on 11-19 FG, 6 Blocks + 4 Steals

[player_tooltip player_id='1220041' first='Malik' last='Tinsley'] (Lancaster) - 22 Points on 4-8 3FG

[player_tooltip player_id='1370628' first='Parker' last='Renault'] (James Island) - 16 Points + 2 Blocks

[player_tooltip player_id='1276361' first='Brian' last='Sumpter'] (Keenan) - 16 Points, 7 Rebounds + 5 Blocks

[player_tooltip player_id='2149135' first='Milton' last='McCray'] (CA Johnson) - 10 Points + 2 3PM

Watford and Tinsley Excel in Bruins Season Opener

The first matchup of the 2024 Holiday Hoopfeat George Glymph Bracket featured two teams coming off successful 2023-24 seasons. After an even first quarter featuring strong play from [player_tooltip player_id='2899212' first='Matthew' last='Gladden'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1220041' first='Malik' last='Tinsley'], Lancaster held James Island scoreless for the first 3 1/2 minutes of the second quarter building a double-digit lead. [player_tooltip player_id='1145334' first='Jordan' last='Watford'] was a major factor in that, touching the ball on almost every possession and using his size, strength, and skill to score the ball. James Island narrowed the lead slightly at the end of the first half with some buckets from [player_tooltip player_id='2044293' first='Gavin' last='Ward']. However, midway through the third quarter, the Bruins went back to the well with Watford who scored 6 points of an 8-0 to regain a sizable margin. Tinsley was also terrific for Lancaster and the duo combined for 52 Points in the win.

Keenan Navigate Second Half Run On Their Way to Victory

The final game of day one of the 2024 Holiday Hoopfeast featured the hosts, Keenan High School and local rivals CA Johnson. It was a pretty even start to the game with [player_tooltip player_id='1276361' first='Brian' last='Sumpter'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1474820' first='Broderick' last='Anderson'] establishing an early presence in the paint for Keenan and [player_tooltip player_id='2673795' first='Aiassiac' last='Germany'] working hard to find buckets for CA Johnson. [player_tooltip player_id='2467354' first='Isaiah' last='Jacques'] was successful in finding his teammates with 5 opening-quarter assists, many of them to Anderson who had 9 points in the period. In the second quarter, the Raiders turned defense into offense with a big run and took a 17-point lead into the break. The third quarter felt a lot like the first and the Hornets got the lead down to as little as 5 thanks to more confident play from [player_tooltip player_id='2149135' first='Milton' last='McCray']. But, in the fourth quarter, Keenan put their foot back on the gas forcing turnovers, blocking shots, and getting out in transition to finish the game with a comfortable lead.

Biggest Standouts:

[player_tooltip player_id='1145334' first='Jordan' last='Watford'] (Lancaster) - Leading off my list of standouts from Day One at the 2024 Holiday Hoopfeast George Glymph Bracket is [player_tooltip player_id='1145334' first='Jordan' last='Watford'], the #1 player in South Carolina's Senior Class. He started off quickly with 7 Points in the first quarter including some glimpses of his ability to work in the post. Watford's combination of size and strength was a matchup difficulty for his opponents. His versatile attack included backing down smaller defenders into the paint, getting to his spots in the mid-range, finishing downhill drives, and the occasional three. The Queens signee was also a monster on the defensive end, racking up 6 Blocks and 4 Steals.

[player_tooltip player_id='1220041' first='Malik' last='Tinsley'] (Lancaster) - Malik is another Lancaster Guard who impressed on Wednesday Night. Tinsley's shooting was a glaring positive, knocking down 4 of his 8 attempts from behind at the arc. Malik is capable of running the offense but when he's off the ball he adds much-needed spacing for his fellow guards to work. He also displayed quickness, feel for the game, a great crossover, and an ability to score acrobatically around bodies. Tinsley's blow-by speed was a factor when James Island would switch bigger defenders onto him, as he could simply beat them off the dribble and get to the cup. He put up 22 Points in the win.

[player_tooltip player_id='1370628' first='Parker' last='Renault'] (James Island) - Renault was a bright spot for James Island in the Round 1 loss. He is an offensively gifted big man listed at 6'7". Parker is capable of working in the post by facing up or turning his back to the basket. He is a more than capable shooter from the free throw line and out, knocking down 1 of his 2 attempts from three. Renault has polished post moves and is confident when getting the ball close to the bucket. Parker will also work to clean the glass and can turn away smaller guards from the paint with rim protection.

[player_tooltip player_id='1474820' first='Broderick' last='Anderson'] (Keenan) - Another big who showed skill from inside and out is [player_tooltip player_id='1474820' first='Broderick' last='Anderson']. Anderson is used much more around the paint for the Raiders than he is with his Upward Stars and he is just as efficient working down low. He established his presence early with 9 first-quarter Points. Broderick worked hard for positioning and finished over both shoulders. He also ran the floor in transition, passed out of the post, and filled different roles on the defensive end. Although he missed his only attempt from the perimeter in the game, he did knock down a mid-range jumper and is a trustworthy option shooting the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='2673795' first='Aiassiac' last='Germany'] (CA Johnson) - This was a new name to me at the 2024 Holiday Hoopfeast. Germany was a nuisance to the Raiders all night long, crashing the glass, protecting the rim, and finishing in the paint. Aissaiac was one of the hardest workers of the day and has a motor you can trust on a nightly basis. Along with his high motor, Aissiac is a high-flying athlete and had a couple of finishes above the rim and impressive blocks. In the loss to Keenan, he tallied 21 Points, 8 Rebounds, and 5 Blocks.

Friday Matchups:

4:00 - CA Johnson vs James Island

8:30 - Keenan vs Lancaster
