High School Spotlight: Westfield Shamrocks

The season is still a month away, but with practices happening, it is the perfect time to start previewing the season. In this series, we will be taking a look at some quick hitters, the top player(s), a potential breakout player, other roster members, and notable games for the upcoming season. For today's spotlight, we take a look at the Westfield Shamrocks.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Quick Hitters</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Went 19-3 last season.</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Lost to Noblesville in Sectional.</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Head Coach Shane Sumpter returns for his 10th season as the head coach. 131-83 overall record.</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>One of the few teams at the Class 4A level with some of the more high upside underclassman on their roster. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Top Player: [player_tooltip player_id='1988138' first='Drew' last='Haffner']</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>There is going to be a lot of production that is going to need to be replaced this upcoming season for the Shamrocks and the player looking to be the leader of this wave of prospects is junior wing [player_tooltip player_id='1988138' first='Drew' last='Haffner']. While his numbers don't really jump out from a season ago, the 6'4 wing showed so some major flashes his sophomore year and over the summer for [program_tooltip program_id='2076166' first='Grand' last='Park Premier']. He is a real sharpshooter of a player and is one of the best catch-and-shoot threats in the state of Indiana while showcasing excellent positional size and length on the perimeter. He is the top player on this team and that increased role will help him breakout on a bigger level. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Potential Breakout Player: [player_tooltip player_id='2414955' first='Luke' last='Vandegriff']</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>With last year's main man in the post Nic Book graduating and off to the college level, there was big void that needed to be filled in the front court for the Shamrocks. Enter 2027 center [player_tooltip player_id='2414955' first='Luke' last='Vandegriff'], who is more than capable of being the guy in the post this season. At 6'10, Vandegriff is one of the best true centers we have in the state and has really started to turn some heads with his legit size and frame. He is a great rebounder, consistent finisher around the rim, and can protect the rim a good level right now.
