As Thanksgiving quickly approaches, so to does the start of the MIAA basketball season.

With that in mind, we wanted to spend the next few days profiling some guards, wings, and forwards to watch in the MIAA this winter.

Today, we'll start with 5 forwards you should know before the season tips.

[player_tooltip player_id='2696663' first='Christian' last='Chartier']

Chartier, a floor spacing forward out of Winnacunnet, has a chance to be one of the winter's breakout stars in Division I. At 6'5" with long arms and a high release, he's able to get his shot off against almost any defender. While he can knock down shots in bunches from behind the arc, he's really improved in his ability to put the ball on the floor for multiple bounces, to finish in the paint over length, and to utilize his floater off drives.

[player_tooltip player_id='2470901' first='Daniel' last='Karavanic']

A physically imposing 6'7" forward, Karavanic should play a major role in Nashua South's quest for a state title. He plays with a nice combination of decision making and physicality, can make shots from behind the arc in the trailer spot, and does a good job of using shot and pass fakes to keep the defense off balance. He's a strong defensive rebounder, provides some rim protection, and does a good job when switched onto the perimeter defensively.

[player_tooltip player_id='2547083' first='Keegan' last='Martinez']

Martinez, a 6'5" post presence at Belmont, could be a nightly double-double threat this winter. He is a solid low post scorer, capable of getting it done on either block or from the mid-range on the baseline. He can finish with either hand, shows good footwork in the post, and plays with a high motor on the offensive glass. He can make plays above the rim in transition and impresses with his ability as a rim-runner.

[player_tooltip player_id='2547030' first='Connor' last='O'Rourke']

An athletic, two-way forward at Bedford, O'Rourke has the potential to be an all-state performer at the forward position this season. The lefty is a strong offensive rebounder, shows soft touch in the paint finishing over either shoulder, and can step out and knock down the occasional perimeter jumper. A good open floor athlete, he can play above the rim on either end, does a great job of blocking shots without fouling, and can finish through contact in the paint.

[player_tooltip player_id='2868669' first='Jake' last='Reardon']

Reardon, a standout on the baseball diamond, could be amongst the top post scorers in all of Division II this winter at Bow. A top scorer at 19.9 points per game last winter, he's a physically strong, 6'5" forward that uses his strength and athleticism to his advantage. He's a tough paint finisher, makes athletic plays on the offensive glass, and can put the ball on the floor for multiple bounces as a driver. He's a multi-positional defender that cleans up on the defensive glass.
