During this lighter period of the high school sports calendar, we're putting a spotlight on some players who excel a sport outside of the hardwood. While some athletes are specializing in one sport, we want to show love to the guys who get it done for their high school during more than just the winter season.

Elwer had a monster summer on the 3SSB circuit, becoming one of the most efficient players on the circuit at the 16 U level due to his elite shot-making ability. That elite hand-eye coordination translates over to the diamond where Elwer pitched a no-hitter in the playoffs for Delphos St John's. As a sophomore, Elwer was named first team all MAC as a baseball player after he led Delphos St John's to an unbeaten basketball season that included some incredible 30+ point performances.

Another small town stud, Sagester is putting up video game numbers on the gridiron this season. Through eight weeks, Sagester has 24 passing touchdowns and over 2,000 passing yards. That leads the conference by six touchdowns and over 600 yards. Combine that with four rushing scores for the 6-2 Patriots and Sagester has been electric under the Friday night lights this season.

Unbeaten Winton Woods is absolutely loaded on defense. Just how loaded you might ask? They've given up more than seven points in a game just once this season! Dawson is one of the key players on that defense with two interceptions to his name, including one he returned for a pick-six. After a second team all-ECC season on the hardwood, Dawson should receive more honors at the end of the fall as Winton Woods looks to once again be in the mix for a state title. West Virginia has already offered Dawson on the gridiron and I would expect more schools to follow.

Big Walnut is an emerging program for both football and basketball and you'll see Hatfield making a big difference for both programs this season. A WR/CB on the gridiron and that PG on the hardwood, Hatfield has helped Big Walnut to a 7-1 record after an overtime victory last Friday night. I expect Hatfield to get recruiting interest for both sports, he recently took a visit to Ohio University for a football game.

Lima Sr is having one of their best football seasons this century as the Spartans are currently 8-0 and atop the Toledo City League. Addy has three touchdowns and over 200 yards receiving this season after having some big early season games. Despite the 8-0 record, Lima Sr is currently the nine seed in Division II Region 8 and would've been in jeopardy of missing the playoffs in the old format. With 16 teams qualifying per region, we'll get to see if Lima Sr can hang with some of the top teams from SW Ohio in November.
