Hatfield had a productive weekend as a scorer using his quickness to get to his spots and either rise up from the mid-range area or get all the way to the rim. Hatfield plays at one speed on the court and that’s fast which allows him to make plays off the bounce for himself or teammates. His dribble drive ability forced help from the defense which gave easy kick-out opportunities for Hatfield to help create open 3-point looks for his teammates. Hatfield has taken multiple football visits in April including Valpo and Ashland and should also receive small college interest on the hardwood as well.

Hatfield is a winner. He has a high motor and knows how to win the game. He has a talent for playing his best in the times of the game when it is needed the most. He played well all game but in the 4th his impact was felt the most. The ball was put in his hands and plays were being called from him. Even though these plays were called for him it was for his playmaking ability. He created for others so well. Then when the ball came back to him, he knocked down the shots. He knocked down multiple big 3s to increase their lead in the 4th.

Big Walnut is an emerging program for both football and basketball and you’ll see Hatfield making a big difference for both programs this season. A WR/CB on the gridiron and that PG on the hardwood, Hatfield has helped Big Walnut to a 7-1 record after an overtime victory last Friday night. I expect Hatfield to get recruiting interest for both sports, he recently took a visit to Ohio University for a football game.

Hartfield is an undersized point guard that can HOOP. This sophomore has a great pace and calmness in the way he plays. Hartfield is a true court general. He is a pass-first point guard who runs Big Walnut offense like he has done it for years. They are one of the top teams in the Central Ohio area this year and a lot of it is thanks to Hatfield. He truly never forces anything. He lets the defense start to worry about his passing and once they forget about him he scores. He is super efficient when he does attack. He finished in double digits and he made it look easy. He has a quick shot. One of the best underclassmen pass-first point guards I’ve seen this year.

Undersized but Hatfield is the most talented isolation creator on this list. The ability to hit pull-up jumpers and tough shots from the perimeter is something that’s very valuable and few are better than Hatfield at those skills. Able to use his burst to create space off the bounce, Hatfield also showed the ability to draw the defense to him with his scoring ability and find the open man. For Hatfield, physical development and becoming an impact defender will be the keys to unlocking his ceiling as a guard prospect.

Hatfield was getting busy on Saturday, creating shots for himself all over the court and making plays off the bounce. A big-time shooter, Hatfield was letting it fly from downtown and connecting on a high percentage of those looks. When Hatfield used his shifty handle to get to the paint, he created plays for himself and others. Finally, I was impressed with the poise he showed in the pick and roll to display patience and find open teammates on the roll or kick out to a shooter if the help defense came to the middle. An impressive guard, it’ll be crucial to pay attention to how Hatfield develops physically because he is very skilled for his age.
