Rankings Review: 2025 Top Ten Combo Guards

Louisiana is a state where the players have a lot of versatility. No other position has that versatility more than the combo guard position. Sometimes these guys have to assume the lead guard role while at other times they play off the ball. This group of ten takes on that role with their team seamlessly at times. In this Prep Hoops Louisiana rankings exclusive, we will look at the top ten combo guards in Louisiana.    Before he became the explosive two guard/wing he is known as, Ferguson began more as a facilitator. He has the capability to hold someone on his hip and still find players in position to score. While he is more of a threat scoring, Xavier can direct an offense just as well.     Jones is the prototypical combo guard. He can play off the ball as a spot up shooter or slasher and hurt teams that way. When he has the ball in his hands and can get down hill into the paint is when he is most dangerous. Jones can take contact and finish through it. He is definitely a strong, instinctive guard who can play both positions well.     Murphy has played as a combo guard since he stepped foot in the Rayville varsity lineup. He has more experience facilitating an offense than a lot of lead guards in the state. At his height, Lantavious can do a lot of things smaller guards have trouble doing. While he plays multiple roles for the Hornets office, he is most valuable when he is being the lead facilitator on offense.     While Tate has punished defenses with his off the ball shooting, he has spent summers working on his lead guard skills with [program_tooltip program_id='2076957' first='Louisiana' last='Elite']. He is very accustomed to running the high pick-and-roll and finding teammates on the wing. So, if he is pressed into duty as the lead guard, it is not unfamiliar territory.     Mason spent time at both guard positions over the last three years and Wossman benefited. Antron gets the team involved early before getting involved heavily in the offense. His willingness to take, and make, game winners is evident of that. Mason will play his senior season for Bastrop. More than likely Antron will employ the same formula.     The two time state champion is one of the more explosive guards off the ball in Louisiana. He can also be the primary play maker during games. Sanders is ultra aggressive and he drives to the paint quite often during contests. He is good at finding shooters who spot up from his drives. Sanders is also good at making the right plays in transition. Preston is an impactful player from both guard positions.       Norbert has spent the past year being the primary combo guard for his high school and travel teams. While he is a streaky shooter when he plays off the ball, he knows where to find teammates when he is the primary distributor. Norbert uses his height and jumping ability to his advantage. He is very dangerous in the half court when he makes plays.     Neal may be the most comfortable playing as a combo guard because that is all he knows. Treylan switches back and forth between both guard positions most games. Carroll keeps defenses off balance because Neal attacks on one possession and then finds teammates the next. His versatility helps Carroll be the threat they are in their classification.     While Strong is more known for his shooting prowess, he has become more comfortable playing both positions. Bubba has developed his handle and manages full court pressure better and his use of the high screen. Strong can pass with either hand and feed the post. He is a true dual threat at the guard position.     Morris had a break out season playing both guard positions for the Minden Crimson Tide. He is a taller guard who handles the ball well and knows how to create advantages for the offense. Morris can pass out of double teams, pass over smaller guards on the perimeter, and post smaller guards in the paint. He is a guard who has advantages at either guard position and uses them.    The versatility of these guards makes them valuable to constantly keep on the floor. These are guards who defenses have to account for at all times. This group of ten are high value and can play on the next level.
