Preseason Player of the Year: 2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1765515' first='Jaidyn' last='Coon'] (Storm Lake)

Coon is the next in the line of nationally ranked prospects to come out of Iowa following his fantastic summer with D1 Minnesota. His ability to dominate the game on both ends of the floor with his overwhelming length, athleticism, and talent will pace a Tornadoes team that should be the best in the conference this season.

Coon is one of the best two-way players in the state. A long, bouncy wing who can defend multiple positions, he had a breakout sophomore season and then followed that up with the best spring and summer of any player in the state. He picked up high-major offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Nebraska, and TCU, and more are probably coming. His combination of length, athleticism, touch from 3-point range, and toughness around the rim make him a dominant offensive weapon.

2025 [player_tooltip player_id='1759904' first='Dylan' last='Stecker'] (Spirit Lake): 23.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.6 steals, 1.2 blocks, 60.2 FG%

Stecker is one of the state's leading returning scorers, regardless of class. He's a highly efficient forward who scores in bunches around the rim and in the mid-range, and he has the ability to occasionally step out and knock down 3s as well. A skilled scorer and dominant rebounder, he will put up massive numbers as a senior for the Indians.

2025 [player_tooltip player_id='2721680' first='Cael' last='Bruning'] (Spencer): 14.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.3 steals

Bruning put together a really solid junior year for the Tigers, leading the team in scoring, assists, and steals, and ranking second in rebounding. The 6-4 guard has great size on the perimeter, which he uses to bully his way to the rim or shoot over defenders, knocking down a team-high 61 3-pointers last season.

2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1765508' first='Cameron' last='Boyd'] (Storm Lake): 12.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 1.6 steals, 48.7 FG%, 39.1 3P%

Boyd is a really nice complement to Coon on the perimeter, a knockdown shooter off the catch and a quality playmaker off the dribble who does a great job getting his teammates involved. He stuffs the stat sheet in a variety of ways, takes advantage of his open looks, and loves to dish the ball to open teammates.

2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1978145' first='Jaxon' last='Paulsrud'] (Cherokee): 13.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.9 steals, 47.9 FG%

Paulsrud stuffs the stat sheet on both ends of the floor for the Braves, leading the team in scoring, rebounding, and assists as a sophomore. The 6-0 guard does a great job competing on the glass on both ends of the floor, is a talented playmaker with the ball in his hands, and is a strong finisher around the rim through contact.
