Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase – Team 15 Evaluations

Nobody does content and event coverage like Prep Hoops. That is never more true than doing our annual series of fall showcase events. This past Sunday, we hosted our annual Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase which is the single best event we put on each year. Over 150 of the states best freshmen descended upon Fishers High School to play in front of our scouting staff as well as many area high school and grassroots coaches. Throughout the week, we will be pumping evaluations on every single kid that attended this event. For this one, we look at the players that made up Team 15.   ***As you can imagine, trying to cover 150+ prospects in a single event is a very daunting task. When it came to guards that had a similar build, Woolwine stood out to me as one of the smarter players out of that bunch at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase over the weekend. He displayed some real sharp passes and was very unselfish with the ball. In 5-on-5 action he knocked down a three-point shot and scored it off of a throw ahead in transition.     At around 5'8" right now Smith has some physical development still to go over the years, but he did not let his size really slow him down at all. The Pike High School guard was really active on defense and displayed some high IQ and solid on-ball handles. He projects to be a lead guard right now long term but if a growth spurt happens, you could see him becoming more of a combo guard. The ball skill allowed him to go coast-to-coast and finish in transition a couple of times.     At 5'8", Henchon was another guard with a smaller frame on Team 15 at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase. What stood out to me about Henchon is the toughness with which he played with on both ends and how he was not afraid to get scrappy at times against bigger opponents. Like most freshmen that were in attendance, a growth spurt would really help him long term. One thing is for sure, you don't ever have to worry about him working hard when he is on the floor at this point.     Dean is a 6'1" guard out of Tri-West High School that showed some good things at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase over this past weekend. He was really solid when it came to working off the ball to get to his spots for a free look. I thought he was one of the better catch-and-shoot threats that I saw out of the many freshmen prospects that were in attendance. Dean could be a consistent perimeter scoring threat long term. One of many talented freshmen in attendance from Tri-West High School.     There always seems to be a funnel of talent that make their way through the Cathedral program and the 6'1" [player_tooltip player_id='2560385' first='Joshua' last='Phillips'] may be one of them in the coming years. Phillips displayed one of the better dribble-pull up games I saw out of the freshmen and was money most of the time when he would utilize that. He has great speed on the ball and can create his own look really well right now.     The 6'4" forward out of Anderson High School was easily one of the more intriguing prospects that was in the gym at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase. While he is still a very raw prospect, Bowling showed one of the more unique playing styles that we saw out of any freshmen. He is a really athletic forward that plays with an extremely high motor at all times. Bowling loves to use his bounce and lankiness to make plays around the rim more often than not with the potential to become more of a stretch forward with some work. The physical tools are there for Bowling, but with more work on his overall game, he could become a top tier prospect in the 2028 class.     At a very impressive 6'8", this Borden High School post prospect [player_tooltip player_id='2538842' first='Gavin' last='Scheich'] was easily one of the more impressive big man prospects that we saw at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase. With his long frame, Scheich has incredible mobility as a big man and can run the floor so well. When I watched him, he was really solid gathering rebounds as well as being a true rim protector at times. His pick-and-role game was really fluid and he showed off the potential to become a stretch big long term. We will certainly be keeping an eye on Scheich as his high school career continues.     At 6'4", Tommy Campbell is one a few young prospects from Warren Central High School that we got good eyes on over this past weekend. He is a really energetic wing that takes pride on the defensive end and can makes plays on offense both on and off the ball. His athletic ability is a nice advantage for him as well. There are a lot of tools to like about him already. Campbell's willingness to crash the offensive glass was something that stood out in 5-on-5 play as well.
