After a few weeks off, it was back to gyms to kick off the August elite camp season. First stop was my alma mater at Grand Valley St University. Following are seven standouts broken down between the backcourt and frontline.

[player_tooltip player_id='2218160' first='Kaleb' last='Brown'] 6-3 2025 Ann Arbor Huron Iowa St commit [player_tooltip player_id='1437579' first='Macari' last='Moore'] rightfully gets much of the attention at Huron. However Brown who is coming off a big summer, is making a strong case to be an emerging second option. Brown has excellent size to play both backcourt positions already. Used that size to easily get his shot off against most defenders. Frequently backing down guards to the block. More than just size/strength combo prospect. Has plenty of bounce and is a threat out in transition. Was a good passer on the break and played with his head up.

[player_tooltip player_id='2218054' first='Zackary' last='Price-Parks'] 6-5 2025 Lake Orion The suburban Detroit wing continued a strong July into the early part of August. Has a very slender frame. But plays with a surprising level of strength and aggressiveness to offset it. Uses the frame to his advantage as a slasher. Knifing through driving lanes that do not appear to be there. As you would expect from the physical description is threat out in transition. Covers a lot of ground with long strides. Unless he adds a lot of weight. He will need to improve the outside shot to become more of a traditional guard.

[player_tooltip player_id='1587829' first='Garrett' last='James'] 6-3 2025 Port Huron Every grassroots season there is a always a player who stands out repeatedly and at multiple tournaments. And for whatever reason— be it a wonky schedule or just being in the wrong gym. I don't get a chance to see them. James was that player this year with the Michigan Ballers. The wait was well worth it. James showed why he earned all the attention. Might have been the top shooter in the entire camp. Showed a smooth and effortless release. At 6-3 and with plenty of athleticism. Had no problem getting it off. Caught the ball in the shooting position and you can tell he has been well schooled fundamentally. Showed enough ball handling and playmaking ability to play the point in a pinch. Impressive performance for a player who appears to be gearing up for a big senior season.

[player_tooltip player_id='2387301' first='Alex' last='Armstrong'] 6-4 2027 Hudsonville In this scout's humble opinion. The best underclassmen in the camp. Just moves like an elite pospect at a very young age. Exploded to the rim during drill sessions. Has advanced ball skill already. Is more than just a scorer. Can initiate offense and is a good passer. At the rim has a unique and diverse finishing skill set. Chiefly finishing with the off hand on both sides of the basket. Played JV last year for a deep program. Coming off a huge grassroots season. Should be ready for an increased role as a sophomore.

[player_tooltip player_id='2058637' first='Shannon' last='Henderson'] 6-8 2025 Stockbridge (pictured) You don't lose eye opening physical gifts. Henderson is still one of the better run and jump athletes in the state. Few can match his combination of length and foot speed. Runs the court like a gazelle. Shot the ball well from three. Unique release from the side of his head. However with his height makes it hard to block. Worked hard in the post move drill station. Important as that will most likely be his positional home at the next level. Will need to find a way to add weight to his frame to take the next step. If he can, he could really take off. There is just so much physical upside and potential.

[player_tooltip player_id='2218158' first='Matt' last='Anders'] 6-6 2025 Edwardsburg Back in June, regular season teammate [player_tooltip player_id='1457721' first='Brody' last='Schimpa'] put on a shooting display in Grand Valley's first elite camp. Anders is completely different player as a post, but had a similar breakout performance. Gets off ground very quickly and finishes easily above the rim. Has broad shoulders and a thick upper body. Uses them to forcefully create space in the post. Did not seem to mind contact. Good athlete who ran the court with speed and purpose. Also showed above average lateral quickness. Along with Schimpa the “Eddies” could become more than just a football school in the upcoming year.

[player_tooltip player_id='2492012' first='Andre' last='Stanton'] 6-11 2025 Oak Park-River Forest (IL) Second time catching the Chicago area post in a month. Came away with the same impression. There is definitely some projection here as a prospect. But 6-11 with length is a rare commodity. When someone gets the “project” label. One probably thinks of a player struggling with coordination and skill development. That is not the case here. Stanton is a fluid athlete who runs the court well. He has a soft touch around the basket and can finish with both hands above the rim. That being said, still has a ways to go. Is he motivated to get there? When you consider that this is a player who drove from out of state to participate in Division II Exposure Camp.. I would say the desire is there. Just needs to find a patient and developmental minded coach.
