Updated Class of 2027 Rankings - The Top Five

Our post-spring update of the Class of 2027 rankings is complete and while most of the top is the same, with the departure of Avery Huston to Texas there was a new spot to be filled. Here's a look at the new top five.    Bongen remains in the top spot after putting together a stellar freshman campaign. The athletic 6-foot-2 guard stepped immediately into the Crusaders starting lineup (12.5 ppg, 3.8 rpg) and dazzled fans both with his highlight-reel dunks as well as his accuracy from three-point range. He's had a good spring and summer with Dynasty on the AAU circuit and back with Jesuit in June, and the ceiling is extremely high for the rising sophomore. He's already garnered attention with a Top 25 national ranking.     Gaines started at point guard from day one for Nelson and was an immediate success, averaging 17.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 6.1 assists - a mark that ranked second in all of 6A. Now even taller at 5-foot-11 and with more strength on his frame, the rising sophomore is already doing great things this summer with his Elite 24 squad on the AAU circuit and again with Nelson in June. There may be no one in the state more adept at drawing contact off the drive than Gaines as he literally lives on the free throw line.     Vialva fits right in at number three in the updated rankings, after a stellar freshman campaign at West Linn where he started and averaged 13.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.9 assists as he learned the ropes. It appears he will now be at Tualatin after playing with them in June, and with the Timberwolves he's fit in like a glove right alongside [player_tooltip player_id='1582973' first='Jemai' last='Lake'] with his toughness at the point and his patented pull-up jumper.     The newcomer to the top five is Thompson and it's a reward that's well deserved. The 5-foot-11 guard was in many ways Southridge's sixth man on their way to the Chiles Center and he provided a huge boost off the bench with his 8 points and 2.2 assists per game. A deadeye shooter - his almost 46 percent clip from three ranked among 6A's best - he'll have an expanded role for the Skyhawks in 2024-25 and the growth in his game and body is already showing this spring and summer.     Rounding out the top five is Carter, who earns the nod not necessarily because of his production so far but rather his potential. He's got great size at 6-foot-6 with strength, runs the floor and finishes at the rim, and can really dominate on the glass. As his skills continue to get refined against top-level competition this spring and summer, Carter's upside will further be revealed.
