Earlier today we published our updated Class of 2027 rankings. By now you know that dynamic combo guard [player_tooltip player_id='2195052' first='Tyler' last='Sutton'] sits at No 1 in our latest rankings. Sutton is followed closely at No. 2 by outstanding hybrid-forward [player_tooltip player_id='2407095' first='Zion' last='Green']. Both players have each already received several DI offers.

Today we want to dig deeper into the 2027 rankings and review four players who broke into our Class of 2027 rankings for the first time. College coaches need to familiarize themselves with the skill sets of these “new” players and start texting them immediately.

#4…[player_tooltip player_id='2364681' first='Marquis' last='Newson'] – 6'4″ / Academy of the New Church / [program_tooltip program_id='2078709' first='Team' last='Final'] EYBL / Combo Guard: The former No. 1 ranked 2027 prospect in Delaware jumps into the Top 5 of our 2027 rankings after transferring to ANC. In his freshman campaign at Sanford (DE) this speedy, multi-skilled guard averaged 12 points and 5.4 rebounds per contest. In June during his first runs with his new teammates, Newson posted 12.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game at the DMV Live event. Newson plays for [program_tooltip program_id='2078709' first='Team' last='Final'] on the On the EYBL circuit, and he was recently named as a top performer at the Peach Jam tournament. Newson is considered a Top 50 prospect nationally for the Class of 2027. He already holds offers from Virginia Tech and Arizona State.

#45… [player_tooltip player_id='2447918' first='Malik' last='Brown'] – 6'3” / Cardinal O'Hara / [program_tooltip program_id='2078678' first='East' last='Coast Power'] HGSL / Wing: We first discovered Brown during this 2023-24 high school season where he was a standout on Lower Merion's freshman team. Brown was a dominating presence at both ends of the court during those freshman contests. He is a long and wiry athlete with hops. That trifecta of assets enables Brown to thrive in transition. He is a respectable three-point shooter and can work the offensive glass for points too. Defensively, Brown is an intimidating shot blocker. This spring Brown put his name of the national recruiting map with superb performances at the HG Spring Jam Fest as well as the Rare Footage Spring Classic.

#86…[player_tooltip player_id='2500733' first='Deng' last='Mabior'] – 6'7″ / Church Farm School / [program_tooltip program_id='2423459' first='PA' last='Hoops Academy'] / Wing: Mabior's debut in our rankings comes after he played stellar hoops at spring grassroots events like the HG Spring Jam Fest (PA) and the Southern Jam Fest (VA). His athleticism, length and highly accurate 3-point shooting should catch the attention of college coaches too. Mabior's well timed off ball movement makes him difficult to guard. He also does a solid job of executing head / ball fakes followed by a side dribble to find open space along the arc. Mabior owns surprising rim to rim speed, so he is effective in transition too. With his enormous wingspan and nose for the ball, Mabior is a solid rebounder at both ends.

#94…[player_tooltip player_id='2500911' first='Josiah' last='Smuda'] – 6'4” / Downingtown East / [program_tooltip program_id='2423459' first='PA' last='Hoops Academy'] / Small Forward: This long and athletic hybrid-forward grabbed our attention at Philly HS Live with his impressive 20-point and 10 rebound double-double. As an encore, Smuda registered several fantastic runs at the AC Jam Fest in July. Smuda is a solid scoring threat in the mid-range as well as in the paint. He can produce points via dives to the rim, elbow jumpers, quick post ups and the offensive glass. Smuda is sneaky fast and possesses polished open court skills. That combination makes him a legitimate threat to fill a lane on the fast break and then convert through contact.
