June 17th-18th I watched the second ever Section-7 Qualifier. There were 96 teams in 12 pools of 8 teams each.

The 12 winners advanced to the official Section-7 June 21st-23rd versus some of the top teams in the West Coast.

I took in a bunch of full games and half of some of the games. Some of the top teams unfortunately for myself (great for the team) were already clearly blowing out their opponent and the bench five were already playing, so I missed them play.

Here were the standout from the sophomore class

[player_tooltip player_id='1546975' first='Javon' last='Bardwell'] Desert Mountain (Pictured)

A hyper athletic scoring guard can pull-up from mid to the three. He will score with and-1's in traffic plus offensive rebound put backs. He uses his length to play the passing lanes, rebound out of his area and he is shooting the ball better then a year ago.

[player_tooltip player_id='2280207' first='Jackson' last='Moore'] Cienega

A pure point guard with toughness and next level court vision. He can score getting downhill and hit the jumper but his ability to set the table and find players easily is a thing of beauty. He changes speeds smartly and is always in attack mode and shredded defenses over the two days to earn the trip to Section-7 weekend.

[player_tooltip player_id='2196256' first='Mekhi' last='Walcott'] Desert Mountain

An undersized pure point guard is quick and fast. He is super flashy with the ball in his hands and will dime his teammates with some slick passes. He scores on the break and with mid-range pull-ups.

[player_tooltip player_id='2345478' first='Mo' last='Watson'] North Canyon

A long and very fluid point forward type. He handles the ball well and plays on or off the ball. He gets downhill and the lefty can hit the pull-up from mid-range. He has good court vision and rebounds well.

[player_tooltip player_id='2345479' first='Milton' last='Phinnessee'] North Canyon

The big man is one of the bigger players in the AIA. He has ridiculously long arms and uses them to rebound the ball at its highest point. He will alter or block shots and run the floor. He is still figuring it out but you can't teach what he has.

[player_tooltip player_id='2396138' first='Rashad' last='Ortiz'] Palo Verde

A super athletic and very young rising sophomore point guard. He can shoot the three, rebounds out of his area and will score on put backs with his bounce. He has a nice handle and is a fluid athlete. He can also make perimeter jumpers.

[player_tooltip player_id='2133646' first='Myles' last='Godfrey'] Cactus Shadows

A very long point guard who is very shifty. He can create his own space to get a shot off, or dribble thru traffic with euros and finds teammates in stride effortlessly with either hand. He understands how to change speeds and he has a sudden burst. He sees the court well and whips passes around the yard. He also has quick hands on defense.
