When Cedric gets into a rhythm, there isn’t much opposing defenses can do to stop him. Cedric doesn’t have standout size or explosiveness, but his feel for the game and change of speed really sets him apart. He can get to any spot on the floor he wants to, and has the vision to pick out a teammate the instant they become open. Cedric was getting into the paint and dumping it off to teammates for easy lay-ups, while also playing off two feet and creating open looks with his footwork. So good at mixing in pivots and shot-fakes to get his defender in the air before stepping through to finish. Still flashed his deep range beyond the arc, but wasn’t settling for jumpers and instead was looking to get to the rim for high percentage looks.
Mustafa continues to flash his high ceiling, and had the most productive game I’ve seen out of him on Sunday morning. He moves with a fluidity you don’t often see at 6’9+, and has an intriguing handle at his size. Mustafa does get caught trying to do too much off the dribble at times, but his handle also allows him to do things that not many young bigs can. One play saw him create separation off the dribble before knocking down a step-back jumper. Another saw him break the press on his own against a 6’2 defender, getting all the way to the rim for an easy finish. When posting up or grabbing an offensive board he kept the ball high and utilized his long frame to finish over the top while not giving defenders the chance to strip the ball free. One of the more intriguing long-term prospects in the class.
Highlights
Solomon established himself as one of the state’s best shooters during his junior season, and backed up that status on Friday night. He knocked down 7 jumpers in the game I watched, mixing in some mid-range shots with a handful of deep threes, and doing so at a high percentage. Kam plays with a calm demeanor, and never seems to force his game offensively. If a shot is there he’s going to let it fly, but if not he keeps the ball moving and relocates to try to find some space. Lethal three point shooter who has the ability to turn the tides of a game quickly when he gets going.
Highlights
Riley plays the game with a ton of confidence and toughness. He doesn’t really care who he’s matched up against, he’s going to go out and put points on the board. While playing with and against some of the state’s best, Riley stood out with his electric scoring ability, mixing in three point makes with some physical finishes at the rim. Really dangerous coming off a screen where he can quickly elevate for a three, or get downhill towards the rim. Has produced in every game I’ve seen from him this spring/summer.
Highlights
Ryan’s team was subbing 5-in-5-out, so in the two games I watched he played roughly 40 minutes of running clock basketball. In those 40 minutes he recorded 8 blocks. There aren’t many, if any, better rim protectors in the state than Ryan. Opposing bigs will try to get physical with him as he was giving up some weight on the block, but he did a great job of walling up and using his imposing wingspan to still get a piece of the ball. Really good mobility to step in from the help-side and make plays at the rim. Offensively is at his best in pick & rolls or stepping in from the dunker spot to finish above the rim, but he also hit a pair of short jumpers in the gametime I saw.
Highlights
Xavier has big shoes to fill as Park Center graduated a talented 2024 backcourt group, and his production over the weekend shows he’s ready for the challenge. He may not blow you away with size or athleticism, but he has a good feel for the game and just knows how to change his speeds to make plays. When given an inch of space, Xavier was making defenders pay with his three point shooting. Did a nice job of getting his defender on his hip and getting to the basket where he was a crafty finisher against size. This spring/summer I’ve seen him put up big scoring numbers on a handful of occassions.
With all of the talent around him, Andre knew he wasn’t going to be getting a ton of shots. With that, he was making an impact in ways other than scoring. He was a scrappy defender with the size to defend either guard spot at 6’3, and even play with the physicality to defend against bigger wings. Fought for rebounds, and was looking to push the tempo to get his team some easy buckets in transition. I thought he did a nice job of using his quickness to beat his man into the paint and locate open shooters with kick-out passes.
