Expert Analysis
Will Armishaw | Prep Hoops Scout
Wooley, a forward out of Choate Rosemary Hall in Connecticut, checks in at #4 among the centers and #32 overall. The 6’9″ big man is a plus athlete that has a great feel for the game as a decision maker, particularly when playing out of the high post. He does a good job of finding his scoring within the flow of the offense, can make shots from behind the arc, and is a high level finisher around the rim. Defensively, he’s capable of guarding on the perimeter in switching actions, rebounds it in traffic, and is capable of protecting the rim both as an on-ball defender and from the help side. Wooley will continue his academic and athletic careers at Yale.

Wooley, a forward out of Choate Rosemary Hall, caught our eye with his offensive versatility and the fluidity of his game. The future Yale Bulldog can space the floor with his shooting ability, operate as a decision maker out of the high post, or take advantage of his 6’9″ frame and plus length as a low block scorer. Defensively, he does a nice job of using his length to his advantage, particularly as a rim protector. He’s vocal on that end of the floor and is capable of switching screens in space.

Wooley is bafflingly exciting as a prospect because of his rare combination of size and skill. Against Dexter, he killed opposing bigs in the post with his footwork, craft and soft finishing touch, but he also stepped out beyond the arc and knocked down numerous threes. He has an inside-outside game and really nice passing instincts, and he brings it together by playing hard on the defensive end and using his length to wall up for blocks. Wooley will make waves at Yale next year.

Wooley makes his first appearance in the New England rankings at #34. The Choate Rosemary Hall forward plays with a nice blend of athleticism and skill, showing the motor needed to make plays around the rim and the touch to score it at multiple levels. The Yale commit can play as a screener in ball screens that pops or rolls, has a good feel for playing in DHOs, and does a nice job of rim running in transition. Defensively, he’s a high level rebounder in traffic and offers some rim protection with his length and ability to quickly get off the floor.

Wooley is coming from Minnesota and will be a standout player on Choate this season. The 6-foot-9 forward has tons of guard skills, which allows him to get rebounds and immediately handle it in transition, and he can also shoot it from both the mid range and three. He even had a really aggressive drive to the hole where he bodied the defender and still finished with contact. The Yale commit should definitely be one of, if not the best, Choate players this season.
