The KABC Titans Shootout had a full day of action with all 128 teams in action at the event today. In this article we'll break down some morning and afternoon standouts from the action from the Kentucky live period event.

Sperry is one of the top overall athletes in Kentucky with excellent stop-start ability and natural explosiveness on the court. Breathitt County had a handful of players who could score off Sperry drawing help and kicking it out to them. One of the more creative passers in Kentucky, Sperry plays with a flair on the court. The biggest thing for Sperry will be consistently knocking down jumpers. He hit two time and space 3-pointers in their early morning game on Saturday and needs to shoot the ball at an adequate level. Defensively, Sperry makes a lot of gambles that either lead to steals or getting himself out of position. I've only gotten the chance to see Sperry with his high school program, hoping to also catch him on the grassroots level surrounded by more equal level talent.

In maybe the most anticipated battle of the day, Butler County took down Newport in a game that went down to the wire. I had a late arrival coming from another gym and Butler County held a double-digit lead. While they lost that lead, it was Rice's layup with five seconds left that broke a deadlock. Playing against teams that can turn you over is key for Butler County if they are going to beat teams like Newport in the winter, with strong games from Rice, [player_tooltip player_id='1229151' first='Ty' last='Price'] and the supporting cast they got one win at the buzzer and fell a possession short Vs Louisville Male later in the day.

One of the bigger stock risers this weekend, Owens has been putting up numbers for Bryan Station. One of the quickest players in Kentucky, Owens is unstoppable at getting downhill. A relentless attacker off the bounce, Owens is looking to get into the paint by any means necessary. At the Kentucky high school level, Owens is athletic enough to get to the paint and finish at the rim. When looking forward to his college projection, he will need to learn to play at other speeds and be more in control when attacking off the bounce. A ton of talent with this 2026 lead guard for a college program that is willing to be patient and develop Owens into their system that would be best suited for a fast-tempo.

One of the top 2028 prospects in Kentucky, Mitchell has already found ways to impact the game for a Louisville Male squad that is in the final four of the 64 team bracket. With a developed body, Mitchell is physical for a player of his age and already made some impact defensive plays. While I missed his high scoring game of the weekend, I still caught Mitchell scoring the basketball by running the court and playing within the flow of the offense. Male has a ton of talent and Mitchell is a key piece as just a freshman. Expect to hear a lot more about his game over the next four years.

A major sleeper, Coen looks like a very intriguing talent for Frederick Douglass. A lefty wing forward who can stretch the floor, Coen attacked off the bounce and finished above the rim with a couple dunks and layups through contact. Also showing some ability to stretch the floor, Coen knocked down a few jumpers. Still a long way away physically, Coen will need to eventually bulk up to handle the physicality of the college game. When looking at long term potential, Coen has a chance to be really good if he continues to work and get comfortable with his size and body.

Louisville Saint Xavier is one of the deeper teams in Kentucky and Johnson has came off the bench in the two games I caught this weekend. He's had no trouble making an impact as he's done an excellent job of rebounding and going after loose balls when he's on the court. I thought Johnson played hard when he was on the court and made an impact on both ends. Even knocking down a couple jumpers off the catch, Johnson is at his best when he's able to be set up by drive and kicks from his guards. At the high school level, depth is a luxury that most teams can't afford, but with guys like Johnson, Saint Xavier can trust their bench to give them quality minutes.

South Oldham played an entertaining game against Saint Xavier with a bunch of shots being made by both teams from the outside. Fithian can catch fire in a hurry and made some impressive shots from downtown. Also flashing a little ability to create off the dribble, Fithian had a nice lefty finish past a shot blocker. A smaller framed guard, Fithian looks destined to play a solid role at the small college level as every program needs the floor spacing he provides.
