Rice returned back to Midwest Basketball Club in July and could finally earn that elusive first D1 offer with a big weekend on the 3SSB circuit. Lawson is one of the best players in the class who doesn’t have a D1 offer yet and he could see that change as soon as next weekend.

In maybe the most anticipated battle of the day, Butler County took down Newport in a game that went down to the wire. I had a late arrival coming from another gym and Butler County held a double-digit lead. While they lost that lead, it was Rice’s layup with five seconds left that broke a deadlock. Playing against teams that can turn you over is key for Butler County if they are going to beat teams like Newport in the winter, with strong games from Rice, Ty Price Ty Price 5'9" | PG Butler County | 2025 State KY and the supporting cast they got one win at the buzzer and fell a possession short Vs Louisville Male later in the day.

The clear winner for highlight of the camp came when Rice came down and made a sweet behind the back dribble that led into a monster poster slam dunk. Rice looks more fluid with the ball in his hands than the last time I watched him play. The other key skill for Rice will be knocking down 3-point shots off the catch. He showed flashes on Friday but continuing to develop this skill is the most important priority for Rice at the moment. Consistent production is what I like most about Rice, he seems to never take a play or game off.

Rice is a very fun player to watch because he plays super hard and isn’t afraid to try and dunk on opponents. Lawson is an active rebounder and has good finishing skills around the bucket. He hasn’t had much opportunity to show if his scoring stretches out past the three point line. If he can do that, D1 schools are likely to come calling.

Rice is a skilled playmaker that affects the game in multiple ways. The defense has difficulty stopping his drives to the basket, where he can dish it to a teammate or finish through contact. He possesses a consistent mid-range jumper that he will shoot off the catch and dribble. His toughness and effort shine through while he is grabbing rebounds at a high rate.

Rice is a blue collar worker who averages a double double while getting limited touches. One of the more efficient scorers in the class, Lawson has started to stretch his game past the three point line and could eventually become more of a big wing at the college level.

Sometimes overlooked due to his teammate Ty Price Ty Price 5'9" | PG Butler County | 2025 State KY taking the spotlight, Butler County would not be in the position they’re in without Rice providing the low post presence and rebounding that he does.

Rice had a solid AAU season with Midwest and should be a good prospect at the NAIA and D2 level as he becomes more and more comfortable as a full time perimeter player. Lawson plays with a fantastic motor and can really rebound the ball at a high level. If he can transition to being a wing, he can see D1 offers coming his way eventually.
