However, there were a lot of names that either put themselves on the map, or continued to show why they were deserving of attention. Check out five of my favorites from Sunday’s competition, with a recap article of the event coming soon.
Gatehouse is quickly lining up to be a stockriser through this summer after a big time Sunday, going for 33 and 20 in his groups last two wins. He has great feel and really knows how to score the ball, hitting shots from all over the floor in his games this weekend. Smooth looking jumper where he both spotted up and made shots on the move, an essential for the role he is going to take on next year at South Meck as a perimeter scoring option. With a good frame and solid lateral movement, he can guard at a decent level too.
Highlights
Calvert was excellent all weekend long, continuing to prove he’s an elite scorer and has outstanding feel for the game. Constantly hit perimeter jumpers with range when defenders dared him to shoot, and ran the offense at his own pace. He doesn’t move exceptionally quick or shiftily, but he’ll lull you to sleep and make you pay in an instant. Good at attacking a closeout and getting to his pull-up jumper as well. Constantly led his group in scoring and probably assists as well.
Highlights
Sanders exploded for 27 points this morning, putting a bow on another good weekend and showcasing some of the attributes that seem like you have to have to play for Carolina Riptide . Was knocking down perimeter jumpers all game long off the catch, but also had an element of creation off the dribble and also was able to play around the rim, even getting a big time jam thrown down as well. A really offensively talented shooting guard that should pick up more looks through the summertime.

Goldston is an explosive two sport athlete, and really showed that off this week with Mid-State Magic, especially in the win I caught this morning. He’s got tremendous vertical bounce, playing above the rim whether it was on his own or catching a lob thrown up to him today. Was really good at finishing down low, creating off the bounce when he was able to drive a gap, and also just playing with a ton of toughness and energy. Probably going to be a D1 football player, but if he wants to play basketball, he could definitely do so at the next level.
Shoaf continues to deliver against good competition, posting 30 and 27 in his last two contests of teh weekend. I saw his game today where he was able to score the ball at will from the outside, showcasing a pretty jumper and really looking to take advantage of whatever space he has in front of him. When attacking downhill, he likes to finish with creativity and avoid length and contact due to his shorter than average frame. Solid playmaker but still improving in that department, more of a scorer off the ball.
