Continue ReadingThe Pennsylvania Sports Writers Association just announced their selections for the 2023-24 all-state boys’ basketball teams. This evening we will review the prospects who were selected for the 6A all-state teams.
One interesting item jumps out right away…The various 6A teams are dominated by players from southeastern Pennsylvania. In fact, of the eighteen prospects selected, only two play their high school basketball outside the SEPA region.
Below are the 6A All-State selections for 2023-24.
1st Team 6A All-State:
Jalil Bethea Jalil Bethea 6'4" | SG Archbishop Wood | 2024 State #5 Nation PA – 6’3” / 2024 / Archbishop Wood / Team Final EYBL / Shooting Guard: Bethea was named the 6A State POY which should not be a surprise considering he was the Philadelphia Catholic League POY as well as a 1st Team All-Philly Area selection. In his senior season this U of Miami commit averaged 23 points and 7 rebounds per game while shooting 36% from three.
Nick Coval Nick Coval 6'1" | CG Parkland | 2024 State PA – 6’2” / 2024 / Parkland / Team Final EYBL / Shooting Guard: This marks back-to-back years that Coval (career 2,000+ point scorer) has been named as a 6A 1st Team All-State selection. During his senior campaign Coval averaged 22 ppg. and drained 70 triples as he pushed Parkland to the District 1-6A title for the second consecutive year. He is committed to Davidson.
Yadiel Cruz – 6’2” / 2024 / Reading / Team Final Red / Shooting Guard: The 2023-24 Berks Conference POY poured in 22.4 points per game this season and splashed 48 threes. Cruz pumped in a season high 40 points (4 3PM) against Harrisburg. Yet, he remains uncommitted. In addition to popping triples, Cruz can score via creative transition finishes, off dribble drives and mid-range jumpers.
Greg Guidinger Greg Guidinger 6'6" | SF Central York | 2024 State PA – 6’7″ / 2024 / Central York / Philly Pride UAA / Shooting Guard: Over the last month Guidinger has taken home YAIAA Division I POY honors, won the 6A state championship and now he is a 6A 1st Team All-State selection. This Loyola University (MD) commit averaged 19 ppg. in 2023-24 and scored 1,400+ points in his career. The Greyhounds are getting a three-level scoring prospect who is a matchup nightmare for opponents.
Shareef Jackson Shareef Jackson 6'9" | C Roman Catholic | 2025 State #249 Nation PA – 6’9″ / 2025 / Roman Catholic / NJ Scholars Elite / Power Forward: After the 2023-24 season Jackson garnered a 1st Team All-PCL selection as well as 1st Team All-Philly Area honors. So, it only seems right that he completes the trifecta with a 6A 1st Team All-State selection. Jackson averaged 17.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.6 blocks per game. His dominant interior play pushed Roman to the 2023-24 PCL tournament title and the District 12-6A tournament hardware. This polished big man holds a handful of DI offers.
Jaron McKie Jaron McKie 6'2" | SG St. Joseph's Prep | 2025 State #74 Nation PA – 6’1″ / 2025 / St. Joseph’s Prep / NJ Scholars EYBL / Combo Guard: McKie is an extraordinary backcourt prospect who scores at all three levels, distributes, rebounds, and defends. Still, McKie’s best assets are his high basketball IQ and composure. In 2023-2 McKie recorded 18 points to go along with 6 rebounds per game. He drained threes at a 43% clip. Those stats produced 1st Team All-PCL and 2nd Team All-Philly Area selections for McKie. He already holds a handful of DI offers.
