Elijah just refused to be stopped in the paint on Friday night. He’s one of the most physically imposing players at the event, with a strong 6’4 frame. The unsigned senior had a lot of success catching on the block and just bullying his way into deep position to finish, and also had some nice cuts off the ball when his guards were driving. Defensively he’s quicker off the floor than he may appear, and it helped him send a couple of shots flying off the court. Impressive two-way performance from the 2024 forward.

The Curtis twins are running with West Central United this weekend, and Marley flashed his impressive perimeter game at 6’6-6’7. You don’t see a lot of guys with his physical tools who can hit shots from outside like he does. Marley was breaking guys down off the dribble and using his long frame to shoot right over them from three, hitting his shots at a high percentage in the game I watched. Has the handle to take a defensive rebound and weave through defenders to get up the floor. Helped lead West Central United to a big win in their opener.

Tyler may have had the best shooting performance I saw on night one. West Central United got off to a slow start, and Tyler was the spark they needed as he drained a pair of threes to get their offense going. He went on to knock down a few more outside shots throughout the game, showing a confident and quick release from deep. Helped open up some driving lanes for the athletic Curtis twins playing alongside of him as defenders were forced to step out on him well beyond the arc. Played a key role in the opening night win for West Central United .

I wasn’t familiar with Tommy coming into tonight, but he impressed with his play on the defensive end. I couldn’t find a height listed but he looked to be about 6’8-6’9 with a long and lanky frame. Even against a physical player I thought he did a great job of walling up and using his length to block/alter shots, getting a hand on a number of attempts throughout the game. Showed solid mobility at his size to slide into position to contest/rebound shots on the defensive end. He’s still a raw player on the offensive end, but worked to get a few putback buckets to keep his team in it against a tough MN Chill team.
Not much you can do as a defender when Micah Curtis Micah Curtis 6’6″ | PF St. Louis Park | 2025 State MN gets a full head of steam towards the rim. He’s just a freight train at 6’6-6’7 with a strong and explosive frame. One play saw him pick off a deep pass attempt and handle the ball the length of the floor before taking flight for an explosive dunk down the lane. Like his twin Marley, Micah is a capable shooter from beyond the arc, but did the bulk of his damage around the basket in this game. Helped lead West Central United to a dominant win on night one.

Another unsigned senior standout for Minnesota Chill was Jalani Mays Jalani Mays 5’7″ | PG St. Paul Johnson | 2024 MN . The St. Paul Johnson guard was electric in the open floor with the ability to turn defense into offense in the blink of an eye. Mays was a pest defending on the ball utilizing his lateral quickness to get right up under opposing guards, and fighting over screens to stick with them wherever they went. Good body control to just hang in the air and finish from a variety of angles agaisnt size. Helped lead his Chill team to an opening night win.
I only got to catch the first half of Johanes’ game, but he did enough to impress in that time. He started off strong with a pair of early buckets that were opened up with his off-ball movement. Johanes makes great cuts off the ball, always finding bits of space to get into in order to catch and finish around the rim. Defensively he made an impact as a shot blocking threat, while also having the versatility to defend a variety of spots. At 6’3 with his athleticism, there aren’t many spots on the floor he can’t defend at the high school level. Could be a name to watch as someone ready to take on a bigger role at Lakeville North as a senior.
