The opening sessions for the EYBL and UAA Next tip off this weekend as teams are looking to start off their seasons on a high note. The 2027 guard group has the potential to make plays this weekend and should put it on display throughout the weekend. Here are the 2027 guard prospects to watch during the opening session of the EYBL and UAA Next.
Jacob Canton Jacob Canton 6'2" | PG Rutgers Prep | 2027 NJ , 6’2 PG NY Rens (Rutgers Prep)
Canton is set to have a big opening session at the EYBL as he makes plays with the ball in his hands. The 6’2 guard explodes off the floor for dunks and can finish through contact around the rim. Canton rarely gets rattled by on-ball pressure and sets his feet before he shoots. He finds his open teammates in the halfcourt and plays with good instincts on the defensive end. Canton is a talented guard prospect who should make plays throughout the opening weekend in the EYBL.
Mekhi Robertson Mekhi Robertson 6'4" | CG Life Center Academy | 2027 State NJ , 6’4 CG Team Final (Life Center Academy)
Robertson is an intriguing prospect to watch as he can impact the game in a number of different ways. The 6’4 guard rises up for dunks in the halfcourt and can draw contact in the paint. Robertson can also score in the mid-range and has the ability to make defenses pay for giving him space behind the arc. He has the length to defend multiple positions on the floor and is unselfish with the ball in his hands. Robertson is a lanky, guard prospect who should have a strong opening weekend for Team Final.
Avery Lynch Avery Lynch 6'6" | SG St. Rose | 2027 State NJ , 6’6 SG Shoreshots RioUAA (St. Rose)
Lynch has the potential to make noise in the opening UAA Next weekend with his ability to score inside and out. The 6’6 guard has a smooth release on his jumper and can get hot from distance in a hurry. Lynch moves well without the ball in his hands, freeing himself for open layups and jumpers in the halfcourt. He can also get to the rim off the bounce and plays well within the flow of the offense. Lynch had a good weekend at the Pittsburgh Jam Fest and is looking to carry over that play into the weekend.
Elijah Colon Elijah Colon 6'1" | CG St. Peter's Prep | 2027 State NJ , 6’1 CG PSA Cardinals (St. Peter’s Prep)
Colon made plays for the PSA Cardinals during the Pittsburgh Jam Fest and is looking to bring it over into Memphis. The 6’1 guard has a clean shooting stroke as he wastes little motion and can knock down triples in bunches. Colon is more than just a shooter as he uses his handle to beat his defender off the bounce and can finish around the basket. He moves well without the ball in his hands and works hard on the defensive end. Colon’s ability to stretch the floor is something that will help his stock in a big way during the opening EYBL weekend.
Jahlil Owusu Jahlil Owusu 6'2" | CG Bergen Catholic | 2027 State NJ , 6’2 CG Riverside Hawks (Bergen Catholic)
Owusu has the ability to have a big opening UAA Next weekend with his ability to play on and off the ball. The 6’2 guard has a good handle, which he uses to blow by his defender and finish around the basket. Owusu can also score in the mid-range and plays with good floor vision in the halfcourt. He has the ability to play off the ball as well and slides his feet on the defensive end. Owusu is a gritty guard prospect who has the potential to have a strong weekend for the Riverside Hawks in South Carolina.
