Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the guards who took advantage of the big stage on it’s first day. Read on for Guard Standouts from the quarterfinals.
The future Appalachian State guard went 6-for-8 from the field en route to 14 points in Grayson’s victory over Ridge View. A 6-foot-3 guard capable playing on or off the ball, he turned in an impressive two days at the Throne thus far.
Burries put in a gutsy 26 point, 10 rebound effort that saw him go do hard a couple of times and get to the line 11 times, where he didn’t miss once. The junior guard has been largely responsible for the ERHS offense while the team continues to clamp down defensively.
Caulker was efficient in limited use offensively, scoring 8 points on four shots and tying for a team high 7 rebounds. The two guard keeps the ball moving and sees the floor well.
Boozer is having the best tournament out of any point guard in the field. After a 22 point, 9 assist outing in round one, he went for 24 points on 10 shots while handing out another 7 assists. He sees and thinks the game at a very high level and has shot the ball extremely well through two games.
While it wasn’t his most efficient shooting performance, most of his makes came when the game was still competitive, as he and forward Cannon Richards Cannon Richards 6’6″ | PF Kell | 2024 State GA kept them within striking distance in the first half. A shooter with unlimited range, the marksman will head to Alabama A&M next season.
UCF has a talented shooter with good positional size waiting in the wings with Simpson. A 6-foot-5 off the ball guard, he hit 5 threes en route to 17 points in their win in an overtime thriller against Plano East.
