<p>New Hanover punched their ticket first in the championship in the East Region Finals, 55-53, overcoming 36 points and 12 rebounds from [player_tooltip player_id='1076334' first='Paul' last='McNeil']. </p>

<p>Two free throws with 1:10 remaining in the game from [player_tooltip player_id='1220122' first='Rodmik' last='Allen'] proved to be enough in the end as the Wildcats shook off a 13-point deficit in the third quarter to seal a victory. They outscored Richmond 17-10 in the fourth quarter. Allen led the way for New Hanover with 23 points and three assists. [player_tooltip player_id='1220121' first='Zeus' last='Batts'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1638784' first='Parker' last='Crittenden'] both had nine points as well. </p>

<p>In the final game of the night, No. 5 North Mecklenburg and No. 2 Lake Norman needed overtime to decide a winner in the West Region finals. Things were all knotted up at 57 following a late four-point surge from [player_tooltip player_id='1154560' first='Isaiah' last='Evans'] to end regulation. </p>

<p>In overtime, the Vikings would prevail 65-61 thanks to 33 points, 11 rebounds, five steals, three assists and two blocks from [player_tooltip player_id='1154560' first='Isaiah' last='Evans']. He filled up the stat sheet as he willed his team to victory. [player_tooltip player_id='1076335' first='Trey' last='Maxwell'] racked up 14 points on four made 3-pointers while [player_tooltip player_id='1409583' first='Chadlyn' last='Traylor'] finished with 13 points, five rebounds and four assists. </p>

<p>North Mecklenburg overcame four double-figure scorers from Lake Norman to prevail in the end: [player_tooltip player_id='1409597' first='Trent' last='Steinour'] (14 points, 15 rebounds, 2 blocks), [player_tooltip player_id='1334260' first='Santana' last='Lynch'] (14 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals), [player_tooltip player_id='1226603' first='Tre' last='McKinnon'] (16 points, 4 rebounds), [player_tooltip player_id='1990413' first='Josh' last='Yates'] (13 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds). </p>

<p>Given how close the region finals game were, fans should expect another exciting matchup on Saturday in the state championship game. Star power is emerging at the right time for both teams who are both defensive-minded groups.</p>
