Blake was able to match Breck in terms of size, but they weren’t able to handle the perimeter skill and mobility that JP possesses at 6’6. He was able to stretch the floor with his shooting touch, knocking down three threes throughout the game. Did a nice job of cutting without the ball and putting himself in positions to catch and finish at the rim. With Daniel Freitag Daniel Freitag 6’1″ | PG Breck | 2024 State #142 Nation MN creating at the point guard spot, JP was racking up high percentage looks by making himself available around the basket. Also showed some athleticism with a transition dunk on his way to 25 points.
Hanif was the other main scoring threat for Breck last night, knocking down five shots from beyond the arc on his way to an 18 point performance. He showcased such a quick release, and with defenders having to think about his quick first step to attack, they often left him with enough space to get a shot off from three. Close out too hard though and Hanif was able to attack and get the ball swinging which most often led to an open shot for a teammate after one/two more passes. That type of ball movement helped Breck defeat Blake 87-61.

The Wisconsin commit had one of his future assistant coaches in the stands last night, and he was putting on a show with his passing ability. As one of his teammates you always have to have your hands ready, as Daniel was slipping the ball through tight gaps, and was constantly looking defenders off before delivering a no-look pass right to a teammate’s chest. We’ve seen him put up some explosive scoring performances, but with his shot not falling early on Daniel turned to his passing to help create good looks for his teammates. Also had success beating his initial defender off the dribble and forcing a help-side man to step up on him, leaving one of his Breck teammates wide open. Added in a pair of dunks and a 360 lay-up for his 17 points while dishing out double-figure assists.

Omar continues to improve, and had some impressive moments last night, particularly as a shot blocker. He’s a long and wiry big who does a great job of walling up on the defensive end, and with his long wingspan he’s difficult to finish over. Avoided picking up fouls all while blocking 5 shots and altering a handful more. Offensively he showed some flashes of promising post footwork, and when he created a good angle he was finishing at a high rate. Ended the game with 11 points and 8 boards in the loss to Breck.

Marcus Marshall Jr
Marcus Marshall Jr
Marcus has no shortage of confidence, and it showed from the jump as he knocked down a few early jumpers to put North in front of Holy Family. If he has just a foot of space, the freshman sharp shooter is going to let it fly from three. Marcus has such a quick release, and gets good elevation on his shot to make up for any size difference between him and his defender. With defenders starting to overcommit to his jumper, Marcus showed the IQ to shot fake and drive baseline, where he capitalize with a mid-range jumper, a left handed floater, and a strong finish right at the rim. He excels as a catch-and-shoot threat, but has shown flashes of playmaking ability with his quickness and shifty handle. Finished with 31 points on the night.
Delbert Hardin
Delbert Hardin
Not sure you’ll find a kid in Minnesota who plays harder than Delbert. He came in off the bench and immediately provided a boost of energy with his physical presence in the paint. He wants to grab every board, he wants to block every shot, and he wants to finish every touch he gets in the paint. Last night was the best I’ve seen him play as he made the most of his chances around the rim, going right at a 6’8 defender for 16 points. Delbert makes sure to find a body to box out after every shot that goes up, and he attacks the ball off the rim with two hands to secure possession. Love his effort to sprint rim to rim as well. Still a raw post prospect but his effort and physical attributes are very intriguing.
Jordan had a strong game during last year’s semi-finals at STMA, and did the same this year as he finished with 17 points in a win over Holy Family. At his size he has surprisingly soft touch to finish off the glass, and he converted on just about every opportunity he had at the rim. Most of his looks came off of pick & rolls and dump off passes, but he also showed his imposing strength as be back down a defender from outside of the lane and got all the way to the rim with ease. He forms a physically imposing 1-2 punch in the paint with Delbert Hardin.
