These are the top point guards in our freshman rankings update, not including players who were in the top 10.
Turner’s numbers have taken a hit this year compared to his 8th grade season but Boyle is now riding a 5 game win streak that has coincided with improved play from Guy. A bigger point guard who typically shoots the ball at a high level, Turner has been a two year starter for the Rebels and is one of the top 27s in the 12th region.
Perhaps the best on ball defender in the class, Dayes is exceptionally quick and capable of keeping the ball in front of him. Offensively, he’s been contributing for a veteran Saint X team but his role as a freshman is primarily a defensive one. Keep an eye on Brandon. If he were to hit a growth spurt, he’ll have scholarship level potential.
One of the best pure athletes in the 27 class, Goodin is already attracting a ton of attention from D1 football coaches but he’s a really good basketball player as well. Kade is mostly a facilitator for Collins right now and doesn’t force his offense or take a ton of bad shots. Goodin has good size and D1 genetics. If he starts becoming a better shooter from range, he could be a D1 sleeper in hoops and not just in football.
Primarily known as a shooter prior to this season, Trent is actually having a better season getting to the rim and scoring in the midrange than he’s had shooting the three. He and Kyler McClendon Kyler McClendon 6’1″ | CG Harlan | 2024 State KY have to carry the offensive burden for Harlan but Cole is fulfilling the “Robin” role to McClendon’s “Batman” admirably and should be ready to step into the role of go to scorer starting next season.
Highlights
Darian is a talented player who has had some super impressive outings against his own age group prior to starting high school. An advanced passer and playmaker, Shy has struggled with his scoring a little this season for Ballard but could potentially have the keys to the Bruin offense for the next three seasons. Darian will need to continue improving his scoring in addition to his playmaking but he’s a skilled lead guard.
