Varsity players are cut out of a different cloth. To be a freshman playing varsity, there is usually something truly special about you. In this class of 2027, there are several players who have begun their high school careers as instant contributors on the varsity level. While these players may fit into a specific role, there are moments when their uniqueness is seen. In this Prep Hoops Louisiana exclusive, we will look at preps who have become instant contributors on the varsity level.

[player_tooltip player_id='2316989' first='Tyrone' last='Jamison'] (6'2" | Calvary Baptist)

From game one until now, Jamison has been a steady contributor to the Cavs offensive and defensive attack. He has a ton of offensive variety in his game and displays it from both guard positions. His ability to get to the rim and make the three makes him dangerous from multiple levels. Jamison is a very tough player to defend and may very well be the best player in this class.

[player_tooltip player_id='2132765' first='Rodrieon' last='Dillard'] (6'3" | BTW-Shreveport)

Coach Kenny Sykes has coached a lot of good players. When he says that one of his "can be special" and he is a freshman, we should pay attention. Dillard began showing his promise during June play and it carried over to the Prep Hoops event. He can score from multiple levels offensively and play multiple positions on defense. Dillard can block a shot on one end and finish complete the transition basket on the other. He is one of the most talented players we will see this season regardless of class.

[player_tooltip player_id='2132748' first='Jackson' last='Chewning'] (6'2" | French Settlement)

A freshman being a key contributor on a top ranked team is special in my book. Just like Mr. Jamison at the top, [player_tooltip player_id='2132748' first='Jackson' last='Chewning'] is fitting that bill. He is a marksman from beyond the arc and a good finisher in transition. On the defensive end, he has a good knack for blocking shots and holding his own on the perimeter. With his talent, Chewning should be a fixture in the French Settlement roster.

[player_tooltip player_id='2132841' first='Jaden' last='Davis'] (6'6" | Airline)

Davis is another player who has made an impact since he hit the Viking campus in June. He is a big body who is very agile when it comes to working in the paint. Davis uses quick moves when he catches the ball on the block making it hard for him to be doubled. Because of his soft touch from the charity stripe, he makes teams pay for fouling him. Davis may be the inside force the Vikings need in a tough district (1-5A) and even tougher division (DI Non-select).

[player_tooltip player_id='1686289' first='Peyton' last='Parker'] (5'11" | Huntington)

Parker has been the first player off the Raider bench for the majority of the season. While he has had his fair share of turnovers, anyone with a pair of eyes can tell that he is a wizard with the rock in his hands. Parker has a handle that can get him into the lane for floaters routinely. He is a shooter also who can knock down two or three in a row. When his strength catches up with his skill set, he is going to be very tough to handle.

[player_tooltip player_id='2132725' first='Ahmad' last='Hudson'] (6'7" | Ruston)

When a player steps off the gridiron (after winning a state championship no less) and makes an immediate improvement to your team, you know he is special. That's [player_tooltip player_id='2132725' first='Ahmad' last='Hudson']. The 6'7" forward returned and the Bearcats have been a different team since. He mans the paint on both ends with athleticism and toughness. When Ahmad is in transition, he runs the floor in transition like he is running a route. Hudson is definitely one of the best freshmen in the Boot.

These players are just the tip of the iceberg in the 2027 class. As this class expands from the watch list, there will be plenty of others that will display their talents.
