These guys don’t get as much love as older, more established contributors at the HS level, but are showing why they’ll be household names soon enough. Check out five guys tha have impressed from the Charlotte area, and take a read below to learn more about their stats and playstyles.
Smith has been a big factor in Cox Mill’s ability to stay competitive even with losing some of their top talent over the offseason. He is averaging 13.9 PPG and 4.5 RPG as a long, athletic wing with a great physical frame for only a freshman. He’s done really well attacking the rim with a head of steam and also getting out in transition. He’s a name to watch in the 2027 class who could be a D1 player.
Smith is the second leading scorer in the entire state as only a freshman, averaging over 32 PPG so far for Lincolnton. They’ve made a massive turnaround, winning more games in non-conference than they did the entire year last year, and he’s the key part of that. He can fill the ball up from anywhere on the floor
Highlights
Hillman has become another young piece that St. Stephen’s HS has leaned on heavily this year, as he’s averaging 15.1 PPG and 3.7 APG. He’s a combo guard that can fill it up from deep, but also excels at attacking defender’s closeouts and then making the simple pass to get his teammates open looks. His effiiency has been low over the course of the season, but that can be attributed to him having to take a lot of tough shots so quickly. He’s a name to watch for this grassroots season as well.
Moore has put up big numbers and become a big part of the Corvian Community attack in his first year, scoring 15.4 PPG and adding 5,7 RPG on the glass. He’s comfortable attacking and getting to whatever shot he wants, whether it be a paint finish or a beyond the arc jumper. He’s made 32 threes so far in 13 games, showing you can’t leave him alone from the outside. He’s thin and still physically developing, but he’s got a great skillset and will continue to make waves sooner rather than later.
Coleman is becoming a name to know over at West Charlotte, as he’s had some big games this year en route to averaging 12.5 PPG and 2.5 SPG. He’s a physical, sturdy guard who plays very well with the ball in his hands, and not just as a scorer. He makes the right dump off pass, fling pass, or other reads and he sees the floor well. He’s had some big scoring outbursts too, including a game winner and 20 points at the Phenom New Years Bash, and a 33 point game against Morrow HS. Keep an eye on him and Dub C over the next few years.
