We saw some impressive performances during the week and over the weekend in various MLK invitational events. Check out half a dozen top performers from across the private and independent school ranks from last week.
Gacic scored 19 to lead the Blues in a tight victory over Calvary Day, and has begun to come on really strong as the season has progressed. He has not had a game with less than double figures since early December, and continues to attack the paint and make good reads with the ball in his hands. He’s a good finisher and has good size and strength to be able to absorb contact around the rim as well.

Dickerson is one of the upperclassmen to contribute to NRCA’s success, as they picked up a big win over Cardinal Gibbons as the MLK Invitational in Garner. He scored 16 in the win as he made plays off the dribble consistently, knocking down pull-up jumpers and also getting to the cup. He also contributed 5 rebounds and 2 assists on the game, showing that he’s not only on the floor to score the basketball, but has multiple dimensions to his game.
Otto continues to be a commanding floor general that is a great get for Coach Jason Zimmerman at Emory, as he led his Bengals to a 2-1 record on the week. He was the leading scorer against WCDS, and chipped in balanced efforts from the lead guard spot in all three games. He does not put up gaudy numbers because GDS is such a balanced, slower paced team, but he makes great decisions with the ball in his hands, stays cool under pressure, and uses his frame to score through and over smaller guards all over the court.
Phillips is proving why he’s a name to monitor in the 2027 class with two big games for Crossroads Christian in blowout wins over Ridgecroft and Cresset Christian, scoring 28 and 20 points respectively. He’s a capable shooter from deep, knocking down 8 threes over those games to add to his 29 made threes on the year, and shown he can control the game as a scorer when he can get to his spots. Working on becoming a good playmaker and distributor as well.
Taylor had a monster game at the Carmel MLK Invitational on his home floor, dropping 39 points and 8 rebounds to beat Cox Mill. He also had 21 points and 10 rebounds against Pine Lake earlier in the week. He’s very good at attacking the basket with his power and athleticism, throwing down monster dunks in traffic and transition. However, his biggest improvement is his three point shooting, as he’s been able to attack from the perimeter now which gives his game an added dimension to it. One of the top unsigned seniors left in the state.
