For this article, I will be taking a look into the 2A class and see which teams are sitting on top of each conference standings and which teams are potential favorites to play deep into the state tournament.
KingCo 2A Conference:
Sammamish HS – RPI: 15 – Record: 10-4 (6-0) – Sammamish dropped some games of the year to Mercer Island and Port Angeles, both games I think they could win if they were to play again. They’ve played well all season, being a very well coached squad. They are a team with mostly upperclassman, led by Rakin Showki Rakin Showki 6'0" | CG Sammamish | 2026 State WA , Anthony Boddie, Barry Morrissette, Keith Kariuki Keith Kariuki 6'4" | SG Sammamish | 2024 State WA , and others.
Renton HS – RPI: 20 – Record: 9-5 (6-1) – Renton has had an up and down season according to their record, but that is due to a very difficult non-conference schedule the team has played. They have only dropped one conference game, a close one to Sammamish. Dennis Johnson and Ronnie Toms Ronnie Toms 6'0" | SG Renton | 2024 State WA are some upper-classman leading the way for the team.
Other Teams: Lindbergh HS – 8-9 (4-3), Evergreen HS – 6-7 (1-4), Highline HS – 6-8 (1-5), Foster HS – 3-11 (1-6), Tyee HS – 2-8 (0-0)
Olympic 2A Conference:
North Kitsap HS – RPI: 9 – Record: 10-3 (7-0) – North Kitsap’s only loss to a Washington state team is Puyallup, and that was early in the season. They have great wins over Bremerton and Federal Way. Cade Orness Cade Orness 6'5" | PG North Kitsap | 2024 State WA is a top senior in the state while Harry Davies Harry Davies 6'4" | SG North Kitsap | 2024 State WA is the most underrated senior in the state, to me. Both are able to take over games at any moment.
Port Angeles HS – RPI: 11 – Record: 10-4 (6-2) – Port Angeles has been playing great all season, dropping an early conference game to Bremerton and even losing a non-conference game to Neah Bay, a top 1B school in the state. Parker Nickerson Parker Nickerson 6'2" | CG Port Angeles | 2024 State WA is a wing who can score well, having many games over 20 points. He can keep them in games and they will be a team to watch going forward.
Bremerton HS – RPI: 7 – Record: 11-2 (5-2) – Bremerton started the season off hot, winning 10 in a row to start their season. They beat Port Angeles and a tough Lake Stevens team during that streak but have dropped games to North Kitsap and Bainbridge. This Bremerton team featured 3/4 freshman, so they won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
Other Teams: Bainbridge HS – 7-3 (5-2), Sequim HS – 8-6 (3-4), Kingston HS – 4-10 (2-6), North Mason HS – 5-9 (2-7), Olympic – 3-9 (0-7)
South Puget Sound 2A Conference:
White River HS – RPI: 8 – Record: 12-2 (9-0) – White River has only played a couple non conference games, 2 of them being losses. They have yet to be challenged by a team within the conference, other than maybe Franklin Pierce. The Hornets have great size overall and are led by 6’6″ senior Colin Schmidtke Colin Schmidtke 6'6" | SF White River | 2024 State WA .
Foss HS – RPI: 25 – Record: 9-5 (8-2) – Foss has played many close games and has done a great job as a team in finding ways to pull out the win. They have some key games coming up, against White River, Franklin Pierce, and Orting. These games will determine if they will be able to sneak into district play.
Enumclaw HS – RPI: 22 – Record: 9-5 (7-2) Enumclaw has played some tough non-conference games this season, those tough games will help them out late in this season as they are finding for a district spot. Their last couple conference games will have a big say on how their season turns out.
Other Teams: Franklin Pierce – 9-5 (7-3), Clover Park HS – 4-9 (4-6), Fife HS – 4-10 (3-7), Steilacoom HS – 5-9 (3-7), Orting HS – 4-8 (2-7), Washington HS – 1-14 (0-9)
Northwest 1A/2A/3A Conference: — only putting 2A teams and the only 3A team here
Lynden HS – RPI: 5 – Record 12-3 (9-0) – The back to back defending 2 state champs are still a top team in the class and prove it each time they step on the court. Anthony Canales Anthony Canales 6'4" | SG Lynden | 2024 State WA is a leader who knows how to put the ball in the basket. Brant Heppner Brant Heppner 6'6" | SF Lynden | 2025 State WA has stepped up big this season and proved he can score outside and inside. Brady Elsner is a top PG in the class who dishes out 6-7 assists nightly. This team still faces matchups against Anacortes and Mount Vernon.
Anacortes HS – RPI: 6 – Record: 12-3 (8-2) – Davis Fogle Davis Fogle 6'6" | SF AZ Compass Prep | 2025 #105 Nation AZ put Anacortes on the map last season with the help of a solid senior class. Now, junior Fogle carries the team himself and has been doing so in a big way. He has dropped over 40 points multiple times this season and has been playing like a top player in the 2025 class. They lost some surprising ones to Cedarcrest and Lakewood, but turned it on by breaking Lynden Christian’s 20+ game win streak.
Mount Vernon HS (3A) – RPI: 4 – Record: 12-2 (8-1) – Mount Vernon is led by senior Quinn Swanson Quinn Swanson 6'2" | SG Mount Vernon | 2024 State WA . He is one of the best scorers in the state, showcasing his ability to score at all 3 levels and drop 40 a night with ease. They have some great non-conference wins against Everett, Jackson, Lake Stevens, and Arlington with Shorecrest and Lynden Christian being the only teams to defeat them. They will be making a deep run in the 3A class.
Bellingham HS – RPI: 27 – Record: 8-7 (6-4) – Bellingham is a team that was surprising a lot of people early in the season due to winning some games against some solid teams. They have started to struggle a bit, losing 4 of their last 5 games. They will most likely need to win-out to have a chance at districts. Kincade Vanhouten, Wyatt Stephan, and Gabriel Van Hofwegen are some players who have been contributing big for their team.
Lakewood HS – RPI: 17 – Record: 9-6 (6-4) Lakewood is a gritty team that plays well together and is extremely well disciplined sand coached. They started off slow, beginning at 3-3 after the first 6 games of the season. They have big wins against Prosser, Anacortes, and Bellingham twice. They are an upper-classman heavy team led by Evan Stacy and Josh Irvin.
Other 2A Teams: Squalicum HS – 7-8 (5-5), Sehome HS – 8-7 (5-5), Sedro-Woolley HS – 7-8 (4-6), Burlington-Edison HS – 7-8 (3-6)
