With a morning win over a previously unbeaten Ohio squad, Lloyd Memorial showed why they are a dangerous Northern Kentucky squad to watch. Walker was sensational in the first quarter, looking confident shooting the 3-point shot and also making a couple tough finishes with his left hand. Both of these skills were questions I had about Walker after the summer and it seems like he’s made strides in both areas. If Walker continues to show growth in his perimeter shot, ability to finish with his off hand and production on the 3SSB circuit, he could be a stock riser during the spring and summer. A 21-point, seven rebound performance shooting 66.7% from the floor will check the boxes needed for Walker.
In a physical contest that went to overtime, Cincinnati St Xavier found a way to get an impressive win over an Arness Lawson Arness Lawson 6’1″ | PG Pickerington North | 2025 State #306 Nation OH led Pickerington North squad. On a team with a ton of athletes from their football program, I thought Reiley showed his athleticism on the defensive end of the court, moving his feet and making it difficult on whoever he was guarding. He also picked his spots well on the offensive end with a floater and cut for a layup. In overtime, Reiley had a crucial and-1 layup to give his team the lead. Likely to wind up a football prospect down the road, Reiley will be an impactful GCL-South player for years to come. A name for both football and basketball fans in the greater Cincinnati area to learn.
Once this game got to crunch time, Reece took over for his team making big play after big play to steal an overtime win away from Reynoldsburg. Whether it was getting to his spot and delivering a tough pull-up jumper in a defenders face, dishing it to a teammate or providing pressure to force turnovers, Reece was everywhere when it mattered most. Showing why he’s regarded as a top 100 prospect in the nation, Reece and Oak Ridge showed their mental toughness to make comebacks twice this weekend against some of the most talented teams Ohio could throw at them. Really impressed with this group and expect them to do big things the rest of the way down in Florida.
The host Kettering Fairmont didn’t have the size to match Burgess in the paint and he really let the rim know how he felt about that with a 100% fg performance that was headlined by a handful of monster dunks in the paint. The Purdue commit is an interesting case study of a prospect you needed to watch during the high school and grassroots season to get a wide picture of the type of player he can be at the next level. With Indiana Elite, Burgess played on the perimeter next to Flory Bidunga and shot a lot of 3-pointers. At the high school level, Burgess used his size and strength to mostly score in the paint.
