Ohio Sophomore ID Camp: Team 5 Standouts

The Prep Hoops Ohio Sophomore ID Camp was loaded with talent from Ohio's 2029 class and in this article we'll take a look at the standouts from Team 5.    White made the short trip up to Fieldhouse USA on Saturday and did his thing offensively with a couple rhythm buckets off the dribble, showing his ability to create his own shot and score. White seemed confident handling the ball Vs pressure and looked to create off the dribble. White also shut down a couple driving lanes against him in isolation and competed on defense. The Columbus City League always has an abundance of talented guards and White looks like a player to know heading into next season.     The first of two Olentangy Berlin standouts in this article, Martin kept the game simple but was still one of the leading scorers on his team. A crafty driver and finisher, Martin used spin moves, filled lanes in transition and cut to the hoop to score at the rim. Moving off the basketball can create easy looks in a showcase setting and Martin took advantage with some open layups when the defense forgot where he was. Olentangy Berlin is a program on the rise and Martin should be a piece to help them grow over the next three seasons.     Hill stood out defensively with a couple pickpocket steals and blocked shots on Saturday, showing his potential to be an impact defender for his team. Hill was one of the top scorers in arguably the toughest conference in Ohio as a freshman, so I didn't need to see him score the basketball on Saturday. Potentially becoming an elite defender would raise Hill's ceiling and after averaging 1.7 blocks + steals per game last season, I'll expect Hill to be above 2.0 as a sophomore if he shows the defensive aggressiveness I saw on Saturday all winter long.     A prospect who I had heard about a lot but gotten limited time to watch in person, Sellers Jr made a statement with his play on Saturday. Doing good work on his body to fill out his frame, Sellers Jr looks slimmer and stronger than where he was as a freshman. A talented scorer, Sellers Jr can just naturally get a bucket for himself. Sellers Jr had impressive scoring flashes as he could change tempos and directions on the ball and was an impressive shot-maker. Hoping to see Sellers Jr create more for his teammates the next time I watch him as playmaking could take his game to the next level in the OCC.     A high motor wing, Starks found success scoring in the paint off drives, in transition and on second chance opportunities. One of the best athletes at the camp, Starks is fluid and quick for his height and can handle the ball in the open court. Starks was one of the leading scorers and rebounders at the camp as his athleticism stands out among his peers. If Starks can consistently knock down set shots from beyond the arc for Pickerington North this season he will be one of the most productive 2029 prospects in central Ohio.     Starkey unfortunately was injured early in the 5 on 5 action of the camp but had already made a solid impact in drills and in his first game. Starkey rebounded the ball well, knocked down an open corner 3-pointer and was involved in the action on both ends. Hoping for a quick recovery for Starkey as he has been a standout on both our freshman showcase and sophomore ID camp back-to-back years.
