He’s helped revamp the Federal Way backcourt that lost a lot of producers from last season. Thomas is a well-rounded offensive player who made the most of his touches against Lincoln (Tacoma), doing what he does and burying 3-point shots, but also showing his control and strength while going downhill. He got out on the end of a lot of fast breaks and was really aggressive throughout the course of the game.
Petty is back and already has his Auburn team out to a 6-0 start. He’s one of the top guard prospects in the state and is a pure shooter from anywhere you put him. He’s really impactful getting to the hoop too, sliding around and through defenders, avoiding contact and switching up his timing with balance and footwork. His athleticism and reach are pretty impressive too as I saw him react and make up ground to block a turnaround jumper from a kid who is 6-foot-5.
He’s off to one of the best starts of any player in the early season. Arlington has a well-balanced team where it seems like everyone can hit threes and they play great team defense, but Martin is definitely the engine that makes them go. Of all the players I have seen, he has to be up there as maybe the best passer in the state. He’s so patient with his moves and the set up for each play, consistently gets his team good possessions, and was shooting the three-ball extremely well.
Peyton looked real good early on against Lincoln (Tacoma), finding the rhythm in his jumper from all over the floor and just looked like an extremely confident player. He’s a strong guard who got up for a couple of big finishes at the rim and overall used his body well at the rim. He’ll be an important player to watch as the season goes on and Federal Way fights for another trip to the state tournament.
Williams was lights out against Cheney, all over the game early with big rebounds, tying up ballhandlers, punching in threes, and getting the ball up the court quick in transition. He was strong when challenged at the rim, made the hustle plays, and even showed his defensive ability taking on the challenge of guarding Evan Stinson Evan Stinson 6’7″ | SF Cheney | 2024 State #223 Nation WA .
Ibarra had a solid game in a loss to Zillah and kept using his patience and footwork to score around the paint and out of post ups. When he faces up, he has a nice pullup out of one dribble either direction and was getting buckets by keeping his man off-balance with tons of hesitations and pivots.
Highlights
The Ilwaco guard should be one of the top players in the 2B this season. He showed off expanded range with ease against Adna with a repeatable motion, good feet, and supreme confidence. He continues to grow his game and with his size and handle, he’s able to work a lot of areas of the floor.
The star guard for Camas helped spur a big second quarter against Arlington when he got blazing hot from downtown. He hit at least four 3-pointers in the quarter, a lot off the catch and getting it off quick. After he started pouring in the buckets and began drawing extra defenders, he showed off some slick passing to backdoor cutters. It was another example of why you can’t leave him open and let him get hot.
