Continue ReadingChapel Hill vs. Shiloh was everything you could hope for in a top 25 matchup and Ramon Soyoye Ramon Soyoye 6’10” | C Chapel Hill | 2024 State GA was the ultimate difference maker. Chapel Hill came back and won in the 2nd half as Soyoye gave up nothing easy around the rim and constantly challenged Tylis Jordan Tylis Jordan 6’9″ | SF Shiloh | 2025 State #79 Nation GA . He does a great job of walling up without fouling which can often be an issue for guys of his style. Soyoye also had some monsterous flushes inside. He finished the game with 15 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 blocks. It sounds like Soyoye will be looking for post-grad opportunities as he plans to reclass to 2025.
It can be a number of guys on any given night for Wheeler but Kevin Savage Kevin Savage 5’9″ | PG Wheeler | 2027 State GA took the reigns on Thursday and led Wheeler to a 67-60 win. The majority of Savage’s damage was done in the 2nd quarter when he got from three and strung together 11 quick points. Savage plays with an IQ beyond his years, excellent in the pick and roll and a great feel for when to drive, kick, or rise up and hit the shot. He finished with a team-high 16 points. Currently holds offers from Florida State, Ole Miss, Arizona State, Auburn, and George Mason.
After missing the beginning of the year, Malique Johnson Malique Johnson 6’0″ | PG Tri-Cities | 2024 State GA made a statement in his return at the TOC. After going for 26 points on day one, Johnson scored a game-high 17 against Wheeler and gave Tri-Cities a fighting chance at the end. Johnson brings elite level speed and athleticism, fairly underzised but certainly above the rim. He’s able to break down defenders with dribble combos and a twitchy first step, some impressive passing vision too once he gets into the teeth of the defense. If it weren’t for the nagging injuries over the past year, Johnson’s recruitment would look a lot different. Nonetheless, he’ll be a great pickup for whoever lands him.
Alexander and Mount Vernon came down to the wire for the second time this year but Braedan Lue Braedan Lue 6’8″ | PF Alexander | 2024 State #84 Nation GA ‘s 30 points were too much in the end. Lue wasted no time finding his groove as he reeled off 11 quick points to open the game, 3 deep three-pointers. He also had a number of tough finishes inside while being physically mauled by defenders. The versatility and toughness are what separate Lue from other high school prospects. Lue is one of the most dominant players in the state and he’s currently playing like it. The Kennesaw State basketball community has to be excited to get him in the door.
Mt. Vernon couldn’t quite get it done in the end but KJ Garris did everything he could to give the Mustangs a chance. Garris absolutely took over certain parts of the game and when Mt. Vernon needed a bucket, the ball was in his hands. 17 of his 27 points came in the 2nd half. Garris is always looking to get downhill and his solid frame allows him to absorb and brush off contact on his way to the cup. He’s a strong finisher in traffic and typically makes several trips to the free throw line too. KJ Garris will be a popular name amongst coaches this spring.
