made a statement in his return at the TOC. After going for 26 points on day one, Johnson scored a game-high 17 against Wheeler and gave Tri-Cities a fighting chance at the end. Johnson brings elite level speed and athleticism, fairly underzised but certainly above the rim. He’s able to break down defenders with dribble combos and a twitchy first step, some impressive passing vision too once he gets into the teeth of the defense. If it weren’t for the nagging injuries over the past year, Johnson’s recruitment would look a lot different. Nonetheless, he’ll be a great pickup for whoever lands him.

The All-State guard is an electric, fast-twitch playmaker. He’s a smooth athlete that seemingly glides to the rim as he slickly protects the ball through traffic before exploding to the hoop. Malique implements subtle head fakes with the ball in his hands, just enough to get defenders to flinch, opening up driving lanes. Johnson is a GameChanger with his bucket-getter mentality.

The 6-1 rising senior combo guard was efficient from the field and continues to improve his outside shooting game. Johnson finished with 12 points including a couple 3-pointers for Tri-Cities (Georgia) in their win over Episcopal School of Jacksonville. He will have a big boost of schools beginning to recruit him as we gear up for the remainder of the Live Period heading into his senior season.

Johnson was definitely in my top few players of the entire camp and should be somebody popping on D1 coaches radars ASAP. He has the ball on a string and looks very comfortable attacking pressure or beating his man off the dribble. Very good passer in transition and has great vision off the bounce, playing well out of ballscreens and when his team can run after a missed shot. He whipped some impressive passes between defenders and through traffic today. He was a great finisher at the rim and can punish poor gap and help defense by taking guys 1 on 1, getting to places on the floor where his man had no help and couldn’t stay in front. He was also a good jump shooter when called upon off the catch. He seems like a no brainer for someone to sign as their lead guard for the 2024 class.
