St. Joseph have yet to be tested this season, but the efficiency Eric has been playing with is extremely impressive. On Thursday against Destiny he put up 25 points on 12-16 shooting, all while dishing out 9 assists in the process. He keeps the game simple and is able to capitalize on the smallest of errors from a defender. Kenesie beat his man to the rim with some hard backdoor cuts, came off screens tight to get all the way to the basket, and used his change of speed to get to his spots for mid-range jumpers. Really impressed with his passing vision by zipping in some dimes from the perimeter, while also drawing in help defenders on the drive before locating an open shooter. All-around dominant performance from the senior.
Brady Clark
Brady Clark
Brady Clark was not missing in Franklin’s Wednesday night matchup with Racine Case. Franklin got off to a very slow start, and for a moment it looked like Case was going to run away with the game early. Brady wasn’t going to let that happen though. He started to get going from deep and ended up dropping 24 points on 8/10 shooting from beyond the arc. He excelled at relocating off the ball and just finding pockets of space where his playmakers could get him the ball. Always seemed to have his hands and feet ready to shoot off the catch. I thought he brought a lot of energy to the floor as well.
Case’s tallest starter was listed at 6’2, so Brandon was able to take full advantage of his size in the paint on Wednesday night. He’s going to be a walking double-double threat all season long with his strength and effort in the paint, and that was the case on Wednesday as he put up 22 points with 10 boards in the win. Not afraid to play with physicality and fight for low-post position, but can also put the ball on the floor and attack from the wing. Added in a three point make as well.
Highlights
Termarion was Case’s tallest starter, but was also running the point for a majority of the game. I thought he impressed with his ability to beat his initial defender, get into the lane, and locate an open shooter as the defense began to collapse on him. For a while it seemed like just about every bucket Case scored was coming from Brumby in the form of an assist or a finish on his own. Has a variety of moves he can go to while attacking downhill, including a quick spin move that left a defender frozen in the second half of the game. Will be one of the top players in the SEC this season.
Anthony Bull
Anthony Bull
Bull was another reason why Case got off to such a hot start in the first half. He’s a big time shooting threat, and knocked down a handful of threes throughout the game on his way to 21 points. He’s not just a three point shooter though, as he showcased a mid-range pull-up game, and wasn’t afraid to scrap for some putback buckets inside. Always looked calm and composed no matter what the defense threw at him. Case is going to need some other guys to step up outside of Brumby this season, and Bull looks like a player capable of doing so.
Nas made his debut for Nicolet on Thursday, and was an instant impact player off the bench. He was relentless picking up opposing ball handlers full-court and forcing mistake after mistake. Nicolet got off to a slow start, and Beamon’s ability to pick up steals and turn them into transition buckets really helped get them going. He has the ability to sit deep in a stance and utilize his lateral quickness to consistently cut his man off and force a change in direction. Tough finisher off two feet who can score through contact or elevate for a dunk in the open floor.
Matthew was another key reason Nicolet was able to get out of their early rut and roll to a big win. He was relentless attacking the basket and using his length to finish right at the rim. Can score out of the block, off of dump-off passes from the dunker spot, or even off the drive where he has some good agility at 6’6. He finished the game with 18 points on 8-9 shooting from the field, with just about all of those makes coming in the first half. With all of the big names around him, Matthew won’t always put up eye-catching numbers, but he’s a forward this Nicolet team can rely on to produce in a number of ways depending on what they need from him.
