Continue ReadingThe week of Thanksgiving I watched 50 teams play (48 from AZ) from Monday-Saturday at five different tournaments. I attended the Coyote Classic at Central and Camelback on Monday and Tuesday. I was at Mesa HS for the Fear the Hop tournament on Wednesday, The Valley Christian Tournament at Seton Catholic, Welcome to the Jungle at Gilbert HS on Friday and lastly I attended the The LV8 Invitational at Chandler-Gilbert CC on Saturday.
Here are some of the top freshmen I viewed that I have not mentioned yet:
Bruce Branch Bruce Branch 6'5" | SF Perry | 2027 State AZ Perry (Pictured)
A long wing with big hands and feet. He uses his length and size to rebound well and can get downhill to score thru traffic. He is good with his left or right hand and will defend multiple positions in space. He is an out of area rebounder.
Peyton Lubash Peyton Lubash 5'9" | PG San Tan Charter | 2027 State AZ San Tan Charter
One of the top impact players of 2A showed his worth vs top ranked Perry. He scored on all levels with catch and shoot and step back threes. He will throw up the court passes in stride. He is very quick using a burst and has a tight handle in close spaces to drive to the basket. Not many are faster then him in the open court.
Parker Counts Parker Counts 6'1" | CG Valley Vista | 2027 State AZ Valley Vista
A good sized combo guard is already playing some on varsity. He has a high IQ and plays with good awareness. He can drive and kick it to a shooter and plays within himself. He can make contested shot in the traffic.
Adam Medina Adam Medina 6'5" | PF Williams Field | 2027 State AZ Williams Field
A power forward has long arms with a nice touch inside. He walls up like you should and rebounds and blocks shots at a good rate. He can step out and hit perimeter jumpers plus work inside well. He is their future building block in the East Valley.
Jacob Hunter Jacob Hunter 6'3" | SG Liberty | 2027 State AZ Liberty
The third Hunter brother is yet another talented forward. He has good size already and can score. He will hit the catch three, he rebounds well for his size he and can dribble and score it in the lane. He will be important piece off the bench and even bigger next year when Ring graduates.
Caron Perez Caron Perez 6'0" | CG Hamilton | 2027 State AZ Hamilton
A highly skilled combo guard is smart. He can play some on or off the ball and shoot the three effortlessly off the catch. He will drive and kick it and stay in motion to free himself up. He is another that will have a bigger role next year but will be important this year off the bench.
Jackson Moore Jackson Moore 5'11" | PG Cienega | 2027 State AZ Cienega
A scoring combo guard who is a good passer with a nice frame. He gets to his spots with a nice handle and uses his toughness to get downhill and will get to the free throw line. He can hit from mid-range off the dribble and will drive and kick it straight to a shooter. He looks to be a top-10 2027 in Tucson.
Daijon Grayson Daijon Grayson 5'11" | PG Mesa | 2027 State AZ Mesa
A blur point guard runs the team when he gets in and plays at a quick pace. The younger brother of a former Mesa standout can make the catch three and has a lightning quick first step. He will take charges and play the right way. He will take over the reins next season.
Rohan Setia PF 6’2 2027 Paradise Valley
A thick framed undersized post player has good hands, broad shoulders, long arms and real strength. He can score on put backs and layups and rebounds and passes well. He will be their future starter next year.
