In 49 states it is just basketball…but this is INDIANA!!! We have made it folks. Yes, technically, there were a few games played around the state on Monday night. However, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings serve as the de facto beginning of the 2023-2024 Indiana High School Basketball season. There were 87 games being played on tip-off Tuesday and 66 more on Wednesday evening. Prep Hoops Indiana will be your best source for following everything that is happening throughout the state. This evening, Kyler Staley will be “back home” in the Bedford area and will have boots on the ground for Owen Valley versus Bloomfield. Meanwhile, I'll be at the Warren Central @ Cathedral game. Here are the five best games on the Wednesday evening slate from around the Hoosier state.

Avon @ Plainfield

These two Hendricks County and Sectional 12 rivals will begin their seasons against one another once again. The Quakers have won four straight opening night contests, but those wins have come by a combined 10 points including one overtime period. Will this be the season Avon gets over the hump? That will be a tall task as Plainfield enters this year ranked #10 in the Prep Hoops Indiana Class 4A poll. They are led by senior duo [player_tooltip player_id='1384422' first='Eli' last='Ellis'] and IU-South Bend commit [player_tooltip player_id='1293396' first='Collin' last='Schmidt']. Meanwhile, the Orioles will feature junior wing Deandre Lott who transferred in from Crispus Attucks along with sophomore guard [player_tooltip player_id='1561685' first='Jedidiah' last='Minnett'].

Hamilton Southeastern @ Brebeuf Jesuit

Brebeuf Jesuit already has a game under their belt as they knocked off Cardinal Ritter 68-47 on Tuesday night. Senior wing [player_tooltip player_id='1275802' first='Reis' last='Butcher'] scored 23 points in that game while Butler bound [player_tooltip player_id='1278639' first='Evan' last='Haywood'] added 17 points. That duo makes the Braves one of the most talented teams in Class 3A and they enter the season ranked #5 in the Prep Hoops Indiana Class 3A poll. As for the Royals, they will feature [player_tooltip player_id='2079501' first='Nate' last='Orr V'] in the backcourt along with junior Braeden Totten and athletic senior wings [player_tooltip player_id='1275826' first='Donovan' last='Hamilton'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1201800' first='Michael' last='Griffith'].

Park Tudor @ Guerin Catholic

Preseason Class 2A #6 Park Tudor travels to take on Class 3A #2 Guerin Catholic who is fresh off a trip to the state final. Leading scorer Rob Sorensen returns as does 6'7" wing [player_tooltip player_id='1547883' first='Dylan' last='Murans'], senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='1386181' first='Jack' last='Cherry'], and junior big man [player_tooltip player_id='2053658' first='Bryson' last='Cardinal']. There is a very talented core to work with for Coach Bobby Allen and the Golden Eagles. However, Park Tudor will have no shortage of firepower. [player_tooltip player_id='1297034' first='Hudson' last='Horvath'] is the most known commodity in the backcourt, but senior [player_tooltip player_id='1295326' first='Kamon' last='Washington'] had a strong summer and sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1561125' first='Miles' last='Wiley'] is expected to have a breakout year. [player_tooltip player_id='1295384' first='Ben' last='Wilkerson'], [player_tooltip player_id='1578356' first='Cal' last='Bostic'], [player_tooltip player_id='2400045' first='Keylan' last='Smith'], and KJ Mark are other important returning pieces. This could be a very fun matchup.

Valparaiso @ Gary West

For fans up in far northwest Indiana we have a good game for you to attend this evening. Valpo will feature junior point guard [player_tooltip player_id='1297042' first='Jack' last='Smiley'] who picked up a couple of Division I offers over the summer. The left-handed playmaker is an excellent shooter and will be one of the top players in the area this season. Meanwhile, don't sleep on Gary West this year. They will be young, but the inside-outside duo of sophomores [player_tooltip player_id='1560995' first='Reggie' last='Hinton'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1560969' first='Tyler' last='Crews'] is as good of an up-and-coming group as you'll find. [player_tooltip player_id='1578345' first='Anthony' last='Holmes'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2053673' first='Derek' last='Collins'] are other names to know.

Warren Central @ Cathedral

Cathedral begins the season ranked #17 in the Prep Hoops Indiana Super Poll while Warren Central isn't far behind at #19. The Warriors are one of our sleeper teams this season as they feature a talented returning core. [player_tooltip player_id='2089932' first='Robert' last='Walker'], [player_tooltip player_id='1401933' first='Damien' last='Keys'], [player_tooltip player_id='2053677' first='Ezekiel' last='Kirby'], [player_tooltip player_id='1277566' first='Nick' last='Glover'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1297060' first='Jevon' last='Guess'] are ready to compete with the best in the Indianapolis area. As for the Irish, they will be young but talented as usual. 6'8" junior sharp-shooter [player_tooltip player_id='1525663' first='Brady' last='Koehler'] appears ready to take on more of a go-to scoring role while fellow junior guards [player_tooltip player_id='1297083' first='Lebron' last='Gough'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1297015' first='Deric' last='Cannady'] bring back plenty of varsity experience.
