Continue ReadingWe recently released updated rankings in the classes of 2024, 2025, and 2026. But what would the rankings look like if we took all of those classes and threw them together? This is our Iowa Top 50 Prospects, Regardless of Class. As is the case with all of our rankings, this is a ranking based on college projection and potential, not necessarily who the 50 “best” players in the state will be this season. We continue our countdown with a look at prospects 21 through 25. (A hat tip to Scott Burgess at Prep Hoops Illinois for the idea for this series of articles.)
(21) Jalen Richardson Jalen Richardson 6'4" | SF Johnston | 2025 State IA | SF | Johnston | 2025
Richardson is the type of long, athletic wing that will have college coaches intrigued. He can defend multiple positions, gets into passing lanes, and does a great job contesting shots on the perimeter. On the offensive end, he can do a little bit of everything. He can put the ball on the floor and get to the bucket for finishes, knock down shots from the mid-range and the arc, and he’s a creative playmaker who sees the floor well.
(22) Leyton Wolf Leyton Wolf 6'7" | SG Cedar Falls | 2026 State IA | SG | Cedar Falls | 2026
The next in a long line of Wolf brothers to come through Cedar Falls, Leyton is a long, bouncy guard who can really shoot it from deep. He moves exceptionally well off the ball and has a quick release off the catch, and he’s improving as a ball-handler and playmaker.
(23) Trey McKowen Trey McKowen 5'11" | PG Kennedy | 2025 State IA | PG | Kennedy | 2025
The son of Kennedy coach Jon McKowen, Trey comes from a basketball loving family, and it’s evident that he has a fantastic understanding and feel for the game when you watch him play. He’s a strong on-ball defender who moves his feet well and doesn’t give up ground against bigger players. Offensively, he knocks down shots at a high clip off the dribble and the catch, and he’s a really good passer who limits mistakes.
(24) Jude Gibson Jude Gibson 6'0" | PG Ballard | 2026 State IA | PG | Ballard | 2026
Gibson is one of the fastest players in the state getting end-to-end with the ball. He’s coming off an extremely productive freshman season in which he was dominant on both ends of the floor for the Bombers. He’s a good on-ball defender with quick hands and feet, and he uses his speed to his advantage on the offensive end, putting constant pressure on opposing defenders.
(25) Payson Nietert Payson Nietert 6'6" | SF Linn-Mar | 2025 State IA | SF | Linn-Mar | 2025
Nietert is a knockdown shooter who moves really well without the ball in his hands. He has a big frame at 6-6, and his jumper looks a bit like current Milwaukee Bucks guard AJ Green, with a high release. He’s a pure shooter who is rapidly improving the rest of his arsenal.
