The Central League is primed for an entertaining and wide open 2023-24 season featuring high-level play from star players. By now you are familiar with the CAL ballers we are talking about. Names like [player_tooltip player_id='1123894' first='Jayden' last='Robinson'], [player_tooltip player_id='1382984' first='Matt' last='Gardler'], [player_tooltip player_id='1454262' first='Rowan' last='Miller'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1460801' first='Jacob' last='Sniras'].

Running the court with those No. 1 options will be a group of prospects who are not household names yet, but they will contribute for their varsity teams this winter and potentially play at the next level.

Today we want to highlight five of these Central League ballers. That way this winter when someone asks you, “What's His Name?” you will know the answer.

[player_tooltip player_id='1867335' first='Jahi' last='Curtis'] – 6'3″ / 2025 / Strath Haven / Mt. Pleasant Bulldogs / Small Forward: Curtis is multi-sport athlete who also is an outstanding football player. His athleticism, solid frame and tenacity carry over to the hoops court well and make Curtis a double-double threat every night. Curtis thrives in the half-court where his traditional forward skills produce points in the mid-range and in the paint. He is a beast on the offensive glass. Curtis runs the floor decently and thus is a secondary fast break option. On defense Curtis is an underrated shot blocker.

[player_tooltip player_id='2224494' first='Cory' last='Hogan'] – 6'2″ / 2026 / Conestoga / PA Hoops Academy / Wing: Hogan is an intriguing perimeter talent who will receive solid minutes this season in ‘Stoga's guard heavy lineups. He can splash triples, hit pull up jumpers and slash to hoop for catch and lay-ins. Still, what really grabs your attention about Hogan is his rebounding skills at both ends. His quickness, non-stop motor and instincts enable Hogan to dominate the boards. On the offensive glass he can gather missed shots and then score through contact.

[player_tooltip player_id='2120393' first='Owen' last='McCabe'] – 5'10″ / 2024 / Lower Merion / Point Guard: In 2022-23 McCabe was a solid bench piece for an Aces squad that won 20 games and went to the 6A state tourney. This season McCabe will be expected to step into the starting five and become a major scoring threat. Good news, starting at the PW Spring League then at the Narberth Summer League and continuing into recent fall ball action, McCabe has proven that he owns the handle as well as the 3-level scoring skills to deal with that promotion. His recent 27-point (5 threes) outburst at the Delco the Hoops Showcase was the latest evidence that McCabe is ready for primetime.

[player_tooltip player_id='2251715' first='Mike' last='Mita'] – 6'6″ / 2026 / Penncrest / [program_tooltip program_id='2078709' first='Team' last='Final'] Black / Small Forward: With his height, polished foot work and smooth jumper, Mita (10 ppg. & 6 rpg. in 2022-23) is a stretch-4 style prospect who is difficult to stop. He can pop threes, score off the dribble, work in pick-n-roll action and slash backdoor for a bucket. As a bonus, Mita is an impressive high post player. Operating from the elbows, Mita can score off a couple dribbles, knock down mid-range Js and distribute to teammates.

Steven Tansey – 5'10″ / 2024 / Marple Newtown / Point Guard: This talented and hard-nosed guard is the epitome of a floor general, as Tansey is responsible for directing Marple's efforts at both ends of the court. When Tansey is not getting MN into their sets and facilitating for teammates, he is spacing the floor with his high percentage three-point shooting. With his speed and tight dribbles, Tansey excels at pushing the rock on the fast break. In the half-court he is a crafty dribble drive scorer.
