Jayden got the day started on the right foot with a strong performance against Breck. He was producing from the jump to help lead his team to a win, utilizing his quickness to get to the rim at will. Jayden has the ability to go from 0-60 in the blink of an eye, just lulling his defender to sleep before blowing by. Once in the paint he was able to score over the top with a quick floater off two feet, and he was also stretching the floor with his ever-improving three point shot. Continues to produce at such a consistent level with Hopkins.

Josiah was giving BSM problems as he helped lead his Edina team to a win. Every few possessions in the first half they tried throwing a different defender on him and they couldn’t keep him out of the paint. They were told to force him left and Josiah just went to his left hand with no issue. At 6’3 with solid strength and athleticism he was able to just hang in the air and adjust his body to finish from various angles. He’s not the type to impress with overly flashy plays, but Josiah simply goes out and produces just about any time I watch him play.
Gavin had his team in it until the very end against Delano. He has a lightning quick right-to-left crossover that allowed him to get downhill towards the basket where he’s an explosive finisher. Good drive-and-kick passer as the threat of him finishing forces an extra defender to step in, and Gavin has the quick reactions to locate the open man and deliver an accurate pass. Has good positional size at around 6’2 as well. Gavin had a strong junior season averaging just over 12 ppg last season, and looks ready for even bigger things as a senior.
Tyler does not play like an ordinary freshman. His pace and maturity on the ball are well beyond his years, and he put in a strong showing against a tough Sauk Rapids-Rice team. Last year he wasn’t much of a shooter, but in this game he looked much more confident in his outside shot, knocking down a couple threes off the dribble. Good body control when he gets to the rim, and does a nice job of keeping his chin at the rim which allowed him to finish through contact a couple of times. Scored 9.6 ppg last season playing varsity as an 8th grader.

Against Edina I got to see Jaleel excel as both a facilitator and a scorer. In the first half he was creating at a high level for his teammates, seeming to know where everyone was going to be at the floor at any given time. Spotted his forwards cutting to the basket for easy buckets on multiple occasions, and he showed he can zip in passes in a variety of ways even from awkward angles. His ability to deliver accurate passes without looking keeps defenders on their toes. In the second half his team needed him to get going more as a scorer, and he did just that. Has a dangerous mid-range game because he can stop on a dime and elevate for a pull-up jumper, but the threat of him exploding to the rim keeps defenders honest. Jaleel can hang in the air around the basket and can put a lot of spin on the ball to score from some awkward angles.
You won’t find many players who are tougher on defense than Greyson. Against a loaded Park Center backcourt, Greyson wasn’t backing down from anyone. He’s grown a bit over the past couple of years, and now he not only has the grit and lateral mobility to be a tough on-ball defender, but also the length to matchup with most guards. Uelmen is going to fight over every screen and compete for any loose ball he’s in range of. On the offensive end he’s a strong finisher out in transition and can stretch the floor with his shooting in the half-court. Will play a big role for one of the state’s best backcourts this winter.

Cash came up big down the stretch for Park Center. With his team trailing by 1 to Minnetonka, he blew by his man and got to the rim where he was fouled on the final possession of the game. With a second left he knocked down both free throws to give his team the win. He has game-changing athleticism, with the ability to burst through the smallest gaps in a defense. Cash is so dangerous coming off a screen and splitting two defenders to get downhill to the basket. Had one play where he was just jogging up the court with the ball, and then exploded with a quick crossover before taking flight down the lane for a dunk. I liked the calmness and pace he displayed as a pick & roll ball handler where he was making great reads to set up his forwards with accurate passes towards the basket. As always he brought a lot of toughness to the floor with his on-ball defense and effort to force turnovers.
