The freshman class has yet to play a varsity game, but the excitement around the group is palpable. Here are the 2027 North Jersey public prospects to watch this season.
Anthony Gonzalez Anthony Gonzalez 6'1" | PG Union City | 2027 State NJ , 5’11 PG Union City
Gonzalez is a shifty lead guard prospect who will have the ball in his hands for the Eagles. The 5’11 guard has a tight handle, which he uses to blow by his defender and finish around the basket. Gonzalez has a nice touch on his floater and wastes little motion in his release. He gets his teammates involved in the halfcourt and can get deflections on defense. Gonzalez is an electric, lead guard prospect who will be making plays for Union City throughout the season.
Jayden Johnson Jayden Johnson 5'10" | CG Elizabeth | 2027 State NJ , 5’10 CG Elizabeth
Johnson joins a good Minutemen guard rotation and should make an impact in his debut season. The 5’10 guard has a smooth release on his jumper and can get hot from distance in a hurry. Johnson is more than just a shooter as he can also put the ball on the floor and finish around the basket. He moves well without the ball in his hands and slides his feet on defense. Johnson is a sharpshooting guard prospect whose ability to play on and off the ball will help his stock in a big way.
Gabriel Kielb Gabriel Kielb 5'10" | PG Ridge | 2027 State NJ , 5’10 PG Ridge
Kielb has the potential to have a solid debut varsity season with his ability to make shots on the perimeter. The 5’10 guard has a nice release on his jumper and sets his feet before he shoots. Kielb moves well without the ball in his hands, freeing himself for open layups and jumpers in the halfcourt. He is an underrated defender and rarely forces shots in the halfcourt. Kielb’s ability to stretch the floor is something that will help his development throughout the season.
Jhkai Singletary, 6’4 SF Paterson Charter
Singletary is an exciting wing prospect that should have a strong winter. The 6’4 wing explodes off the floor for dunks and can draw contact in the paint. Singletary uses his size to see over his defender and rises up nicely on his jumper. He has the length to defend multiple positions on the floor and skies for rebounds on both ends of the floor. Singletary is a lanky wing prospect whose ability to make plays at both ends of the floor is something that will help his game in 2023-24.
Ayyub Wilson Ayyub Wilson 6'0" | PG Arts | 2027 State NJ , 5’9 PG Arts
Wilson will be a guard prospect to watch in Essex County with his ability to make plays with the ball in his hands. The 5’9 guard has a good handle, which he uses to beat his defender off the bounce and finish around the rim. Wilson plays with good floor vision as he finds open teammates for passes in the halfcourt. He can knock down open jumpers on the perimeter and is a solid on-ball defender. Wilson is a tough, guard prospect who should have a strong debut season for the Jaguars.
